The rules change all the time and am wondering how long an MOT certificate lasts? It was always 3 years - does this still apply? Also have heard conflicting stories about emissions tests. Some say one year, some say two years? Thanks

The MOT lasts until your registration comes round again - it is approximately 3 years. This years dates (courtesy of Yorgozlu on a previous thread):-

If you reg isn't in the list (section D) then you don't need an MOT this year. You must get the MOT done in the specified fortnight or pay a 50% increase in the charge.

I am not certain about the emissions test but have always understood that it is the same timescale as the MOT - perhaps somebody can confirm.

Always do your emissions in the same week as your MOT test - if it is more than a few days old when you go for MOT, or the guys are on a coffee break then they will send you off for a new emissions test. Based on hard experiance people not on hearsay!

Thanks for your answers everybody. Unfortunately my Adobe is playing up. I can get the page up but when I go to print it it all turns grey!!!! I tried reading the numbers and as far as I can see my car is FA and is not in the list. Can someone have a look for me please. Had MOT and emissions last August. Thanks

You are right, I cannot see any "FA" reg in the car section of the form. It does appear in the top section which I think is for commercials, etc.

Apologies for the thread hi-jack,

Can I ask what the emission standards are here? i.e. what are the accepted levels of Co, etc.

Secondly Is it law to have cats (catalytic converters) fitted?
