I have downloaded a magazine then converted it to mobi format for my Kindle via calibre.

All this has worked and I have managed to get the magazine onto my Kindle however I cannot increase the size of the print and it really is too small to read.

I have used the Aa button but it does not seem to work on the magazine as it does on a book.

Has anyone any idea's please.

Thanks.

have you tried hitting th Aa button, rotating the screen so it is sideways on and then enlarging the text?

Sorry, may be a silly question but when you hit the aa button does the menu come up with Aa in different sizes.

If so have you pushed the right arrow until the largest Aa is underlined then pressed the dot in the middle of the arrow buttons?

Dont think I am being sarcastic, but that one has caught a few people out that I know.

You may have to do it during the conversion process. You can change the base font size when you convert to mobi format using calibre. It an option in the 'look and feel' section of the convert window.

DoctorW, yes I have done that and by the way, no offense taken!

I increased the font size to 14pt but it doesn't seem to have made any difference at all.

Unfortunately I have to now leave it for tonight but will continue playing around with it tomorrow.

Thanks for your help

Have you tried downloading the pdf to the kindle? I have several pdf's on mine which I couldnt get in Kindle format. They work slightly differently from mobi, but you can turn them sideways and fit to screen, which has always worked for me.

Ok pdf explains quite alot. Its one of the 'harder' formats to convert and espcially if it is a complex pdf with lots of images. What you are getting output in mobi format after conversion I suspect is actualy an image rather than actual text, hence no text font resizing on the kindle and no difference changing base font size when doing the conversion. It might work better if you convert pdf to html (unsing a program called mobipocket) and then html to mobi. There is a thread here that may help, msg3 seems to know what he is talking about

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39496

Kindle has historicaly been weak on pdf files and thier conversion is one of the more complex because pdf is not just a 'text' based format. Even my sony reader, which has native pdf support is not perfect on very complex pdf files, though is generally recognised to be better than native support that came with kindle2 onwards.

DoctorW,

Thanks for the idea, I tried as you suggested and I first thought it had worked but then had the same problem whichever way I rotated the screen, the print is just too small to read.

I appreciate your efforts.

Thank you.

Erolz,

Thanks for the link, I have just spent the last 2 hours ( I am not very computer literate) and still cannot get it to work so obviously it is me and I am doing something wrong. I found a youtube video on how to use the mobipocket creator - no problem with using that but for some reason it just did not work!

Now for a break, a Magnum, and will come back to this later with a fresh mind!

Thankyou

Scoobydoo - how big is the pdf ? What generation of Kindle do you have ?

If you can get me the pdf file, by mail or via a memory stick if its bigger than a meg or so, I would happily try and see if I can have more luck converting it.

Erolz,

Well, the Magnum did not refresh me, it's to hot for that.

In answer to your questions; I have a 3rd generation Kindle and the pdf file is 63.7Mb
