residency query on non renewal

Hi



Can anyone tell me the procedure if you do NOT wish to renew your residency but would still like to come back to Cyprus in the future as a visitor, do we need to hand in our pink books, and if so where.



Any help appreciated

Before we left to come back to the UK we went to the Police Station in Girne and explained to them we were leaving and were told that is ok. Did not have to hand in our pink books. Have been back to TRNC since our residency ran out (expecting problems) but all was ok. But hey who knows what will happen on our next trip over!

I spoke to Immigration. They said no problem, just leave and come back for holidays.

I have only been back once, but had no trouble at Ercan, though I was expecting questions and hassle.

Thank you so much for your replies, you hear so many stories about being fined if you have not renewed and come back to the island we just wanted to be sure we were doing the right thing as we will be back on more than one occasion.

Just to clarify, those who outstay their residency, having not renewed do face problems when leaving and returning as they have been continuing to reside illegally. The fines can be hefty.

You won't have that problem as you are leaving before your residency expires.

groucho is correct. Plenty of people leave for various reasons and then return to see friends. As long as you leave before your visa expires, then no prob. Hope the next stage of life is a good one if you are leaving here.

Hey n.n. - do you know why they are leaving? the light here is brighter at night than in U.K with less clouds and more stars to be seen. they may be leaving sadly because of circumstances outside their control - and the fact that they want to come back on holiday means that Cyprus is still in their blood. we need some good positive thinking here at the moment, especially as it is the 20th July!

Thanks for all the info, yes we are leaving just before our residency expires, we will return to North Cyprus in the future to see our friends who are still there.
