Yes there is, I believe it is 1.5 Meters after which you need specific planning permission, I stand to be corrected on the height though.

They say its the same as the uk,however,we built a wall 5foot in our garden but the person who bought the land next to us is lower so on his side its 10foot,he complained (and he hasnt even built his house yet) and we were told to knock it down, but if we do that, its not safe as someone can fall 5 foot down into their garden.we were told to put a net up,which is ugly and not safe, at the moment their land is just a field.

Try chain link fence and grow that russian vine thing through it - grows like mad and will hide the chain link very quickly. Also watch where he builds and if it is within 3 m of your property line then either let him build it and complain - he will have to move it later!!! Or just be nice and let him know he is building too close to your property. I would first check on your property boundary lines to make sure they are correct and then build your 5 ft wall 3ms from your line and nobody can complain!

If you then want to have much fun - chain link the property line and keep chickens between the chain link and the wall!

Its a great country for little rules this is.

Msg1

Word of warning, if your hedge grows too high or cut too severely, you'll be investigated by 'Special Branch'!!

Thanks for all your replies, I think well be going with the chain link and vine.

The hedge belongs to our neighbour, no problem with that, the hedge was maybe 5 to 6 ft tall, they have decided that they want to look into our property and pool, so they have cut it short, what I am angry about is the fact that they have come onto our property while we are not present and cut it, it was cut in such a fashion the branches and bits were dropped into the pool. I have a picture with a set of the steps on our property, with the neighbour leaning over cutting the hedge, you can clearly see trimmings in the pool.

Its a fixed structure like the wall that has a height limit, tresil on top, plus hedge is not a permanent fixture so can be high as long as all is in agreement. We had this problem with our old house wall six inches our side 1.5 metres the other therefore our dog had to be chained until we used tresil to increase the height to what we called sensible.

msg 8 - yes here people do seem to have problems with hedges I have never had so much fuss about hedges until i came here. May i ask do you speak to your neighbour? Our neighbours moaned our hedge overlaps so i say cut it, couldn't even believe he hadn't but they say they can't i may call the police! but by the sounds of it the police maybe called if i go on his property to cut it. He is cypriot and now i have given him permission quite happily cuts his side. Thank god the other neighbour doesn't seem to mind me cutting what i thought was my boundaries (uk head on whoops)

Just a word of warning about 'miaforum' - it sheds tonnes of white flowers in the spring and even more little red berries at this time of year which become are very messy on a patio (and would be horrendous in a pool). So be careful where you plant it but it does grow very quickly.
