Does anyone know how to download books from Amazon onto a Kindle without the use of wifi or 3G.

I have checked and downloaded the Amazon 'Kindle for PC' but cannot work out how to get the books across to the Kindle.

I know the answer will be something daft that I have missed but I would appreciate someone pointing the obvious out to me!

Thanks

Sue

Appologies if this is not relevant but the following link might be of help.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200505520

The sections

"Downloading Archived Items Without a Wireless Connection" and "Transferring Files Via USB"

The process seems to be in short download the file from your amazon manage your kindle orders page to your PC, then drag it from the PC to a USB connected kindle into the documents folder.

Anyway hope the above is of some use.

Thanks Erolz,

I started to do what the link you suggested told me and it also invited me to download 'Kindle for PC' which I assumed I had to, now all the books go into this and the system will not let me either drag the book into the Kindle nor copy and paste it.

I am beginning to wonder whether I should not have downloaded the 'Kindle for PC' but I just followed a path by Amazon.

Kindle for PC is something different. It lets you read a kindle book on the PC, it is not for moving stuff to your kindle.

Can you see the books you bought on your order page ? If you can is there a "Transfer via computer" option for them ? This is what you need to do I think.

Erolz,

Done it - thanks.

I was trying to transfer out of the Kindle for PC rather than from my download folder - I knew I was doing something stupid!!

Appreciate your assistance once again.

Your welcome Sue. The whole thing can be very confusing until you get to grips with it and is made even worse by all the excessive DRM (digital rights management) wrapped around it. I know people who have bought ebooks legitimately only to then go and download a 'stolen' copy simply so they can get the thing on the device they want it on without having to have a degree in computing.
