mess 1 - posted on another thread but relevant to those thinking of using a trnc reg'd taxi in the south: "your trnc policy can be extended to cover the damage to your vehicle, but you cannpt buy insurance for third party damage of passanger liability when you go south - from an agent / insurer in the north. The only insurance available to trnc registered vehicles is at the border is "private use - excluding hire and reward"... So a trnc taxi carrying passengers for "hire" in the south is not covered, nor can they buy this cover.... no matter how you twist it - that's how it is..... Far better for your customers know the truth, rather than being mis-lead and finding out the hard way.....

I have used this company before and they are very professional, courteous, and were on time. They sent me a confirmation email and followed up with a telephone call. I can highly recommend them. TaxiExpress, don't waste your time commenting on NNs comments, if you just ignore him hopefully he will go away!

msg 2 think that you got some info incorrect, as the Taxi is entering into the Greek cypriot side, is no longer a taxi and any insurance which you buy at the border is then for passenger and car. Thats way taxi drivers on both side when crossing have to take off the Taxi sign and cover the T reg on the car as not to disclose that it is a taxi. for example i am TC national but work on the Greek Cypriot and despite living in Kyrenia, my car is Greek registereted but I have full insurance on both sides of the borders, Paid 165.00Euro for the Greekside and 250.00TL on the Turksih side and did not have to buy at the border, Insurance companies in the north and south can issue a insurance for up to 12 months. The registration of the car is not an issue.if you wish to see a copy be glad to send to you.

mess 8 -one problem - border insurance "excludes hire and reward" -and as you are a taxi - the insurance in the south is null and void............ so if you have a serious accident in the south while carrying passengers - you are not covered - and what if the passengers are seriously injured ?? they will receive nothing........

i think the problem is to do with cyprus being a divided island, taxi express, but it doesn't get round thefact that you are not insured in the south. what will you do if you kill a car load of passengers or severely injure them ? its no point saying, "sorry we didn't know" cos thats not going to pay the medical bills. barry d

mess 17 - what do i reccomend ? not my problem - i just wanted board member to know that if they travel in a trnc taxi as a fare paying passenger in the south - they will not be insured.... The only way to get the cover is for a south insurer to arrange specific cover - but they are a little pissed that you nicked their land at gun point, so you have got more chance of getting this than garry monger's missus going on a "crash" (no pun intended) diet.... the trnc taxi drivers have a SERIOUS problem and one which all passengers travelling with them should be made aware..........

Message 20 NN is completely correct as border third party cover excludes hire and reward. Unless the TRNC taxi owner has purchased cover including hire and reward from a GC insurer then you as a fare paying passenger are not covered for injury or damage as a passenger in that vehicle when driven on GC side. I would be interested to know from a board member who runs a taxi business in TRNC whether they have this cover.

Styliana et al With the greatest of respect, Ozi and any other taxi driver could be the safest driver in the world but accidents do happen (tyres burst, dog runs out into road etc etc). What Neg Nick is stating is that in the event of an accident the insurance offered at the crossing points does not cover hire for reward. This is not the fault of the taxi drivers, more the system - however, people should be aware of the potential risks if an accident occurs. Paul

I think NN is wrong I was very heavily involved in non fault accident claims for hire vehicles and if the European directive on non insured drivers is good in the south you would be covered for personal injury from a non insured driver the same as the UK the MIB handle these claims in the UK so I suspect there is an agency in euro Cyprus that does the same as in the UK it might be long winded but I believe you would still be able to claim if you were in an uninsured Taxis that had an accident

Would hate to try to make a claim, your involved in an accident in a vehicle that has no ligit insurance to carry passengers, with a bit of his number plate disfigured, if ever a get out clause was required you've just handed one over. Get Jimmy from the Paradise to take you, safer, cleaner and the dosh will always go to a good cause. D.N

I understand some members wishing to point out important facts. However, if you want to be fully insured whilst a passenger in the South, get a South side taxi. You pays your money..... etc. Who is going to pay that? Taxi's in the North should stop implying that they are fully insured for hire & reward whilst in the South. Simples (squeak).
