I don't mean any of this easy cook or American packet rice, I want proper Basmati brought in from either Pakistan or India.

They used to have it at 1001 but they've been sold out for a couple of months now.

Nothing else will do I'm afraid, Basmati is the king of rice. But, unfortunately, not at any price. My experience of Basmati in the supermarkets is it usually costs a small fortune. Does anyone know if there are any wholesalers where we can buy in bulk?

I can't find proper Basmati in the supermarkets at the moment, only Tilda is there.

Thanks Clarissa for the tip about Erülkü, last time I looked they didn't have any, I'll make a special journey now I know they have it in.

Padisha,

Erülkü is the best value supermarket we have here in TRNC. If you drive over the mountain road from Girne, through Çatalköy and over towards Lefkoşa/Mağusa you'll find it on your left hand side (down a side road) just before you hit the motorway to turn either left of right.

For a lot of people it's too far to go when you're only saving the odd few kuruş on a particular item, but if you need to do a full 'shopping trip', you can save a lot of money going over there (and it's a nice drive too with lovely views as you drive over the mountains).

ps, save a bag of basmati for me!
