New here so please be gentle! I have seen the 2 Cyprus Today articles below on 11th and 25th October respectively and I'm surprised they haven't been a subject for discussion on this board. Maybe they don't mean what I think they mean? Does anyone know anything about the 'new law' that's apparently been passed to improve the NC market for foreigners by shortening the PTP to max 3 months and allowing the purchase of 1 property without the restriction of only 1 donum? http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/Press/CT111008.html http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/Press/CT251008_newlaw.html

The TRNC are good at passing new laws but hopeless at enacting them. Usually when they say something will change nothing changes at all.

In other words if things don't change they'll stay as they are. However if things do change they won't be the same.

Not that we are cynical or anything like that with regards the laws in NC, unfortunately past experience comes to the fore. The short answer to your main question as to hope for foreign buyers is 'extremely unlikely.' You'd think that the newspaper would actually be able to publish what the new law is considering it's allegedly been passed but then it is North Cyprus.

| This is really good news if it is true, The government is going to have to do something urgently if it is to stop the construction industry grind to a halt. Marion Stokes is right in what she says, that the mess that they have created needs clearing up first and they can start by giving us our ptp been waiting for 2.1/2 years and also make our developer clear the bank loan he has taken out on ours and other peoples homes. | Even better, why don't they scrap PTP altogether? Complete nonsense & certainly wouldn't survive EU law. |

As I was coming down the stair I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. I wish that man would go away! Lem

Could this be used as an analogy? Its like a blind man going into a darkened room looking for a black object that isn"t there.
