About to spend our first Christmas in N Cyprus. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to buy a real Christmas Tree? If not how about artificial? are they easily found or should I be bringing one with me. Would rather like a real one if possible. Maggie

We managed to get a Christmas Tree with roots from a place in Karaoglanoglu the first year we were here, pretty expensive though. Driving from Girne towards Lapta, it's on right hand side before GAU turning. Don't know if it is still there... BTW despite lots of watering the tree didn't survive.

You can buy fir trees from the forestry department (near Kyrenia hospital) in the week before Christmas. I think we paid about 10 or 15YTL last year for one about 6ft high. They are not thick & bushy like Christmas trees, but it was nice to have a real tree.

The ones the forestry dept sell are normally the tops/branches of pine trees & as sunnyday says they are a bit on the sparse side. They look OK once you have decorated them though. We bought an artificial tree from Alpha Mega a couple of years ago, they have some very nice ones on the South but much more expensive than UK so you could bring one with you to give you both options.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll go with sunnyday's idea and try for a real one from the forestry dept. I'll pick up the tinsel etc here & bring it over. Maggie

Maggie - Mr Pound sell xmas decorations by the bucket load - so unless you've got loads of space, and nothing else to bring, you can get them here. ltd
