Mavi Kosk - full of Cypriot history. As it is on an army site and run by the army you need to take your passport when visiting.

I went this year. There are timed guided tours of the house. I had to translate from Turkish to English as we inadvertently ended up on the Turkish based tour. The soldiers do a marvelous job as the presenters. They run a tiny refreshments kiosk in the garden and this appears to be a nice way of showing one's appreciation. I gathered that they are under orders not to accept any gratuities. My impression was that the interior was in an almost "time-locked" state. Don't expect to see any priceless treasures but more a view of what is possible if you are very wealthy. Just don't try taking any photographs of the inside of the house otherwise it may get a bit awkward. Do go to the end of the garden and get a picture taken of yourself against the view towards the sea.

I have been several times with our visitors and it is well worth the time, it is just outside Camlibel. We have always taken photos inside and out and never a problem. We are usually given a four page do it yourself guide and show yourselves round and the most important thing to remember is that this place was constructed in the 60's when in UK lots of people still lived in council prefabs and this guy on mafia money constructed this house which in those days would have been akin to a Holywood stars home BUT he did get what was coming to him in the end, those who live by the sword, die by the sword!!!! Do go and as previous poster said you will need passports to get onto the army camp. Entrance fee last time we went was 2 Tl per person.

I think Monday's is a 'closed' day but between 10 to 4 for the other days and you should be safe. Try the cheese factory afterwards in the near by village. Richard

Be very careful about taking photographs in and around Camlibel. My husband and I were taking pictures of the wild flowers in a field (not near the army base) Next thing we now we were dragged off to the police station and questioned for six hours. I was accused of photographing soldiers!!. This was a corn field for Gods sake. Nothing military in sight.

| Jeep safari visits the Mavi Kosk after we have stopped for lunch in Camlibel, you wont need your passport when going with the safari and the entrance fee is included. Our guides do a full tour assisted by the solders who work there. We also explore the surrounding areas of Kozan and the mesoria plain.
