Has anyone ever brought items purchased from Holland and Barrett the like in their hand luggage and had no problems. I am specifically thinking of Omega 3 capsules and Evening Primrose oil capsules. I can't seem to find out whether these fall outside the 100ml limitations. So if anyone has successfully brought these through a UK airport in their hand luggage I would be grateful to know. Don't want to risk it because I learned the expensive way a few months ago with jars of marmite and other similar ingredients! Obvioiusly putting it in the hold will guarantee them but they are quite heavy and will use my allowance. Thank you.

Yes I have but I split the bottle to have enough for the journey with me in hand luggage and I put the rest in the case in the hold.

Thank you for your help but I still can't find an answer. What I am wanting to bring are not technically classified as medicine. The Evening primrose oil are capsules. I have "weighed" my shopping list for such items and they come to around 1.75 kg hence my wanting them in my hand luggage if poss because flying with Easyjet I am not limited by weight. My question is has anyone brought these capsules or omega 3 capsules as hand luggage and have had no problem at UK airports. Thank you

Gromit - Easyjet have referred me to the airport because it is their security and not the airline but I cannot get through to anyone at gatwick who can help. Woodspeckie - sounds promising. How recently was this and can you remember quantity?

Just to make sure I have e-mailed Manchester Airport for clarification as I will be travelling to Turkey in a few weeks time, I wouldn't like to be caught out, will post when I get an answer.

I have received e-mail from Manchester Airport, it is ok to take any amount of the capsules in hand luggage providing they do not have a liquid content.

What pray do they think are in capsules other than liquid? I regularly take Omacor 1000 mg capsules in their normal plastic containers - basically fish oil (prescribed) in hand baggage on flights all over the world and never had that questioned.

Thank you Woodspeckie. I am therefore assuming thay the likes of omega 3 capsules and evening primrose oil capsules must be put in the hold as I guess these are liquid? In your email to the airport did you specifically mention oil capsules? I wonder if you could give me there email address because i have had no reply from any of the airports I have asked. Many thanks

e-mail address: customer.relations@manirport.co.uk This is what I asked "are you allowed to take health shop items in hand luggage for example Omega3 and Evening Primrose in plastic containers if so in what quantities as I will be on a 4 week holiday". e-mail answer. Tablets of this form are OK but if they have a liquid content will need to be no more than 100mls or gramms & declared in a clear re-sealable airtight plastic bag seperately from hand luggage when you enter security.

Many thanks, that has clarified it for me. I was wanting to take a 6 month supply back with me so clearly mine will be over the 100ml. Thank you for your help.

Lucienne - I was told they don't stock them there as it is only a small outlet - they only stock the more popular items.

You could have another problem if you get stopped and searched at Ercan or if you are coming to Larnaca, when you come over the border, as we are not allowed to bring Vitamins and Minerals into the country anymore. They were banned a few months ago.

Re: Msg 1, I'm so pleased it took you less than a week to decide that oil is a liquid, and that a 6-month supply of capsules is definitely more than 100 ml allowed!

Clarissa1. So you knew the answer all along why didn't you tell us? I have taken 5 weeks supply of these items through Larnaca, Ercan and Turkey in my hand luggage having passed through security at Manchester and never had a problem, the liquid is encased in a shell and in a plastic bottle for all to see but I have never been questioned.
