It reminds me of Mombasa on a bad day... except in Mombasa the beaches are white and clean...And the variety of sea food is mind blowing..so I would have to say Third World in almost every department. But the people are nice.....

Surely it's similar to turkey If you look at wages etc it's similar to a lot of the poorer eu countries and I don't think any of them are third world. There aren't any shanty towns or people living in mud huts. I've been to Thailand and that's third world and believe me here is a lot better there's families living in tin shacks in squalor and disease also been to the favellas in rio de janeiro that's grim to nothing like that here.one thing I have noticed is the Turkish overall are much more hygienic in gneral than British people I think this may be related to the Muslim religion as cleanliness is very important to them.I'm sure there are exceptions o this but just the Turkish people I have met reinforce this.

Cyprus in an island in the mediterenean the real people of Cyprus are not much different to the Italians, spanish etc... Before 1974 Cyprus was one of the most modern & civilised places of the era, if the powers that be had not sparked off the organized chaos that resulted in the island being divided just because that suited them, things would have been very different... The TRNC is in it's own class and should not and CANNOT be classified/compared with others...

I remember having this discussion at the "Melting Pot" (anyone remember that?) years ago. We came to the conclusion that cant be classified - must be either "Fourth World" or "Other World". So civilised in some ways, and then descends to chaos. Result of a mix heritage I think, but it makes life interesting..
