Not been on the site for too long but I received an e-mail from a friend about an e-petition to end the isolation of TRNC https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/12374 Obviously not everyone is able to sign, but if we can all e-mail it, Facebook it, blog it, flog to your UK friends and relatives and get them to pass it on, it would help. It's not the end of the problem, but it could be the beginning of the end-WHAT HAVE WE GOT TO LOSE?

Sorry if this has been on before-but I just wanted to let everyone know and it's worth repeating anyway. The way e-petitions work is that if we can get 100,000 genuine, signatures, the House of Commons (eg UK Parliament) will debate the issue-you need to be normally resident in UK to sign so this won't apply to a lot of people but if everyone passes it on, we should be able to get a result. There were 64 signatures yesterday and the petition has a year to run. Your country (adopted or otherwise) needs you!

Waste of time, this is not something that is on the table of the UK and has any influence on (thanks good), The issue of Cyprus is between the Greek and the Turks.

All changes start with a gesture-40 odd years ago in the USA a black woman refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white woman and the civil rights movement was born-now there's an Afro-American in the White House. Throw a pebble in the pool, it makes ripples, if we all throw a pebble in the pool it makes waves. The GCs & Greeks lobby & campaign tirelessly for what they want - the results are there for all to see. If you want to sit around another 40 years for the UN to make a decision fine-but you'll continue to suffer the consequences- you don't actually need to DO anything -thanks to everyone for their support.

waste of time. If turkey had any intention of a peace solution in Cyprus,we'd have had one long time ago. My father used to wind my brother and I and put us in competition with each other...........but all along my father was the actual winner all the time.............little we knew.......... try enlarging the picture

msg 6 It may not be on the table at the moment in the UK that is what the epetition is all about. Over the next few months/years the British public have the chance to bring matters of concern for debate in the H of C. As an ex politician believe me that when the electorate shout and members are concerned for their jobs, they "sometimes" react. msg9 I believe that the majority of cypriots want a solution of some kind, the rest of the world can help, each country in its own way. WHAT HAS ANYBODY GOT TO LOOSE? https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/12374

Fo Turkish Cypriots have been denied their basic human rights in the form of embargoes placed on them since 1974. Less than three years after Cyprus gained independance the power sharing agreement between Greek and Turkish Cypriots broke down and the Turkish Cypriots were forced to live in enclaves which represented approx 3% of the island. In 2004 The Annan Plan was an attempt to reunify the island, 65% of Turkish Cypriots voted for the plan and 76% of Greek Cypriots voted against. Turkish Cypriots were promised by the international community (EU, USA & UN) that they would be rewarded for voting for the plan as it demonstrated their desire to reunify Cyprus, Turkish Cypriots are still waiting for the world to make good on these promises!! The embargoes still stand today and this is unacceptable. We, the undersigned, want the government to vote for the removal of the embargoes in recognition that the isolation of Turkish Cypriots and the embargoes placed on them has gone on long enoug

When the TRNC government decide to grant me PTP on the property I paid for in full [pre '74 Turkish Title], and when the Kulaksiz 5 victims' properties are restored to them, together with substantial compensation for their legal expenditure losses, plus extra for the trauma they've been forced to endure, then, and only then, will I add my name to this petition. However, and this has been posted umpteen times before, when are people going to realise that the hierachy, having already consolidated their wealth, wish to maintain the 'status quo'? This has been perennially and amply demonstrated by them, and it appears that they are determined to continue to resist change for as long as they can possibly do so. As for the dire consequences accruing to the growing number of property scam victims, which include their own people, they couldn't care less.

Forget it, Wrong time, the world has got enough to worry about with the coming economic crisis to give a toss about a petition ,especially for Cyprus ,a land that has already taken up too much time and energy in EU parliament ,courts, etc ,thanks to an ROC that thought they were the centre of the EU universe, until told to get lost. I think the most important ,and only meeting the ROC will be interested in, is that with the European Bank and IMF to solve their debt problems. Turkey meanwhile has bad economic problems of its own . So dont think Cyprus is at the top of the list of problems to be solved.

phil, valid point, neither orams nor apostolides can live in his former home: one down, 6999 ex-pats to go and the k5 case still to be adjudicated so what happened about the 100,000 "buyers" still without their deeds and the poor sods from whom "developer" ian beaumont stole their life savings, all in south cyprus? I ask you because you seem very well-informed about cyprus rip-offs

phil, at the risk of being accused yet again (but not by you actually) of "not understanding" the cyprus question I can only say that old fevzi, given a smallholding in the karpaz in exchange for extensive properties near limasol, sometimes says he "wants to go home" no problem but sometimes says he "will be beaten up" if he does a local convenience store is often visited by a pair of black mercedes from the south and one of these visitors said to the proprietress "my mother knew your mother" in english nearby is a restored orthodox church (yes there are some in the trnc): elderly, professional couple arrive in a posh silver honda with gc plates and mooch around for a bit, looking very sad and upset what does all this say?
