This question may well have been asked before but, if so, I am going to ask it again. I am looking to come over to TRNC in March and I have been looking at flights with Monarch. Has anybody flown with them lately and are they any good, or not? By the way I will be flying Manchester to Larnac (no flights from Newcastle)

Also try easy jet to stanstead and Pegasus to Ercan. Longer timewise but can be cheaper

Hi ME. Check Turkish Airlines from Manchester. Came out beginning of November to Ercan. Fantastic flight - lots of legroom, CHOICE of menu, free drinks, free headset, only 50 on the plane. One month return flight for £238. Last July with Monarch to Larnaca - cramped seats, late take off, food and drink extra, headset extra, constant trolley sales - know which I prefer.

We have used Monarch lots of times and they have always been very good. Nice staff, nice food. Prices have gone up quite a bit this year though so we are looking elsewhere.

Everything costs extra and, like most budget airlines, they discriminate against tall people who have no choice but to pay extra to be able to actually fit their legs in. This also has a knock-on effect on their travelling companion who also has to pay extra if they want to sit next to them. Ok rant over. Breath, breath, calm, calm.

Monarch have around 40 seats at the front that you pay 25 pounds extra, per person each way, unfortunately if you don't pay the extra, a 4 hour flight seems like a very long way if you are around 6 foot tall because the rest of the seats are very cramped.

we flew with monarch for the first time this year and so far quite impressed, flight left on time, crew were cheery unlike those on cta, food smelt ok although i didnt have any as never eat on the plane anyway. Bit cross that you had to pay for headphones and the film which was rubbish(well not my cup of tea really) and inflight entertainment only available on way back Flew with turkish airlines last year that was great, seats were lovely, crew were cheery, inflight entertainment was god and u didnt have to hire the headphones. So all in all happy to fly with either monarch or turkish airlines

The last time I priced BA up I nearly fell off my chair, they wanted £800 each. I hear thier profits are down many many millions I can understand why, but you are right Stewy the level of service is head and shoulder above

Why do people always bang on about the time...is the same time to ercan as it is via Larnaca. My Parents flew from Heathrow to Ercan left on time with CTA at 2.30pm, my Sister flew from Luton with Monach to Larnaca at 2.10 the same day. Both flights left on time, my parents arrived in kyrenia 45 mins ahead of my Sister. So there is no time difference at all really!!!!!!!!! Its down to price!?

ba from manchester. you need a second mortgage. i agree the time to ercan is no difference as the transfer time is shorter. last time we flew with monach we had to fly under a storm. i was sick as a dog, could not stay in my seet so the steward just pushed me in the toilet and left me there, poor bloke did give me a drink of water eventually. i think i will never forgrt this flight , for many reasons it has to be the worst. and i have flown all over the world at least 3 holidays a year. and i am not bragging just stating they are the worst i have come across.

I do not like Monarch airways. They are what they are. A No frills airline and not particularly cheap in comparison to other airlines. They have the most cramped seating space I have ever come across. i flew with them to the Maldives a couple of years ago. Absolute hell. Val xx

I have flown with Monarch several times over the years on both long and short journeys. The normal seating does leave a lot to be desired. Flew with them to Larnaca in September. On the way out in a "regular" seat and only stopped from being claustrphobic (sic) as we were only 2 in the row of 3 & were able to spread out. On the way back hit the jackpot. Was prepared to pay the extra £50 for legroom seats but had been allocated them.....free! It really makes the difference. Wonder what the difference in price would be between a BA regular seat & Monarch extra legroom taking into account the cost of any food & drinks?

My flight tomorrow with Monarch with legroom both ways is £182 return. B A flight from Heathrow tomorrow £507 !!!!! O K you get a meal and free drinks but look at the difference in price. I do fly with B A but for some reason their flights for this time of the year are so expensive

Stewy BA.... friends who've always preferred BA had the most horrendous journey with them that took over 12 hours and no meals after the first snack meal... served to keep them quiet before they'd even taken off... 3 young children... hell! They will never fly with them to Cyprus again... Flying via Ercan although it generally involves a one hour lay-over in Istanbul is just as quick end-to-end... given that the transfer times from Ercan etc are so much less time consuming... plus, most of the time, your luggage arrives on the carousel a lot quicker...
