The old methods work. Squeeze it like you do any other round objects in your life. If you hear a cracking sound then you have pulled.

Tapping the Melon should tell you whether or not it is ripe,In the case of Honey Dew melons, tapping and also smelling the stem end will give a good indication of ripeness and sweetness......Touch and smell, no gadgets needed...........
