SKYPE PHONE: Can anyone out there assist a friend?

The grandchildren of a friend of mine have done "something" on their computer (PC) and now the Skype phone does not operate the way it should.

I can't help myself, because - being a Mac user - their Windows Operating System has to many secrets for me.

then, by a suspicious coincidence the firm sent round an upgrade two weeks ago:
