Lots of the usual negative postings about the beaches in TRNC. Posters always banging on about how bad the country is and the disgrace of sewage leaks. Well guess what - having spent 3 weeks there and getting no e-coli infection, this was in todays's London Metro -

At 12 beaches in Devon and Cornwall, sewage has spilled 42 times since June 20, including nine times in the picturesque Devonshire town of Salcombe.

There have also been eight discharges at Summerleaze in Bude and six each at Crantock, near Newquay, and Meadfoot in Torquay.

The figures were released yesterday following the launch of a scheme that sees beach-goers sent texts warning them of pollution from emergency sewage outfalls. It was set up by the Surfers Against Sewage campaign group and South West Water.

Andy Cummins, of SAS, said: ‘We are not surprised, although we’re extremely disappointed. We are talking about equipment which should be discharging no more than three times in a bathing season.
