I often see racist /offensive/derogatory comments on here when refering to mainland Turkish people eg gacos in this link msg 2 http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/72407.asp Why is this allowed to continue ?

we also call them ;fijas'..............any idea of meaning of that?

Msg 2 - why would you call a group of people anything derogatory? You wouldn't want them to be ignorant towards you, but would want them to treat you as a unique individual - so give them the same respect back, and take EACH person as you find them...

I WON'T REOPEN THE THREAD BUT THE ANSWER IS THOSE ON THE RECEIVING END. CERTAIN WORDS LISTED ABOVE, WHILST DESCIPTIVE OR SHORTENED VERSIONS HAVE BY THEIR USAGE ACQUIRED A DEROGATORY CONNOTATION. IF THE RECIPIENT FEELS DEMEANED BY THE TERM THEN IT BECOMES RACIST THEREFORE.
