Are the wasps in TRNC as unbearable as they are here in Jersey? Almost impossible to sit out in the sun here.

Very little problem with wasps in my experience, just the odd one every now and then.

It's funny one always associates hot countries with flies and the like but in fact we find it less of problem here than we did in Berkshire. It's a pleasure to eat outside and be relatively bug-free!

There have been lots of problems this summer . We've had a couple and friends have had similar problems. The Girne Belediyesi do not come out any more to deal with this problem

No problem in Catalkoy, as previously stated wasps, flies, mozzies no problem hardly any about.

Much bigger problem when we were in Germany at the beginning of the month, continually harrassed by wasps and flies.

Yes indeed cypgab, I always run indoors and stay there for 5 minutes when the sprayer comes round.

Poor little wasps - they don't eat or drink much if you *leave them alone!

* And the bonus is, you're very unlikely to get stung, either!

OK - OK, here's a good tip:

Take a glass tumbler [drinking glass] > insert a paper serviette > spray the serviette well with fly spray > depending on the size of the dining table, place these strategically > result: NO WOPSIES OR BLOWFLIES!!!

Wasps seem to appear around our dinner time outside and we have even seen them drag chicken and tuna off our plates!

In 10 years, I have never seen a UK. type wasp outside or inside where we live. The only time I have had a problem with them is near the beach & when having food.

We do get the thread waisted wasp (thin abdomen) but they don't really bother with people at all & I don't even know if they sting (probably do). They are too busy building their mud cocoons for their larvae.

I loathed wasps in the UK. & was paranoid about them. They are far more of an issue in the UK. than here.

Well we have hundreds of the blighters. As soon as the barbie is lit they are there at the ready (chicken is definitely their favourite). We set the table with cutlery and swatters. Last week I got my 4th sting - not eating or swatting at the time either!

We have had nests in the tiles above the bay window, on window frames, door frames, under sunloungers, as well as in the bushes. They just love it here. Mr Spangles used to be paranoid about them, but I think he's got used to them now.

We have two wasps nests in the garden at the moment in Lapta, one "paper lantern" type in the jasmine and one underground under the lavender. I don't remember ever seeing any before. They are'nt a nuisance unless you get too close and then they get a bit agitated. It can make watering a bit exiting(with recycled kitchen water I should add) !

This year we have been inundated with wasps in Bellapais, strangely they seem attracted to meat rather than sweet things, light a BBQ before sundown and we get around about 30 - 40 wasps bombarding the meat and I have seen them carry pretty much their body weight in tuna and chicken away!
