Hi Liz yes I came through from Polis on Sunday, I am crap at directions and I found it easy to find. It took me 2hours 15 mins to get from Polis to Alsancak... i would add on about 30 mins to the airport. Just head for Guzelyurt then pick up signs for Iskele and just keep driving along the narrow roads and you come to the crossing.

Crossed a couple of weeks ago. Whilst the road from Yesilmak to the border is now good the road from Lefke to Yesilmak has seen no improvement & is still bumpy narrow & twisty. At the border the routine is the same as elsewhere but I did not notice an insurance office so may be better to have insurance already. Pesonally I would not think this route has any advantage over the motorway from Nicosia for persons travelling from the Girne area. Hope this assists.

we have our insurance so that isn't a problem. it is really just a change of scenery going to the airport, as we used the motorway last week and it gets a bit boring. Is the new road any quicker than going over troodos do you know?

RE Mess 2; I think the poster meant follow the signs to Lefke and then Yesilirmak. Iskele is in the east, or at least it was last time I was there.

I would not plan doing the journey if it were not in daylight hours as at night motorway/dual carriage way safer The actual crossing is not used at all you should sail through

Hi Liz I did the journey on Monday. From Girne it took me just under 3 hours to get to Pafos airport via Yesilmak and Polis and about 2 1/4 hours to get back via the motorway. As you say, it's nice just to have a change of scenery but it's less stressful than hammering it down the motorway. Rich

Visited friends in Argecka near Polis that way a couple of weeks ago, took just under three hours to get there. We came back via the motorway, which late at night was almost empty. Wouldn't fancy the mountain route at night personally.

Liz W Msg 5. I found the route over the Troodos from Bostanci/Astromeritis through Kakopetria down to Polemidhia quicker than going through Yersilirmak/Pyrgos and onto Polis. But after Polemidhia there is still a fair bit of motorway driving if that's what your seeking to avoid. One thing to remember the route through Kakopetria can be a bit hazardous in the winter. Good Luck with your choice of routes.
