Does anyone know where we can purchase a 19" LCD digital TV with DVD player at a reasonable price?

dancer i presume you are asking about buying in cyprus and not in the u.k

firstly depends on what kind of quality you want to go for the turkish brands brands are much cheaper than i.e sony-panasonic etc

if you go for turkish brands there is arcelik and beko both quite good brands these brands can be found depending where your place is in the arcelik store in girine centre they also sell sony and other makes but for the best prices go down to lefkosa just jump on the bus to go there and they also deliver

hope this helps

Thanks to everyone who replied. Ukturk yes did mean to buy in cyprus, can you give any advice on good turkish makes to look for. I suppose you don't have any idea on price? Just want to compare to UK, where prices are for digital LCD with DVD £250.

Thanks again.

hi dancer

i thought you meant buying in cyprus

well concerning turkish brands there are many but the three most popular and quality brands are beko - vestel - arcelik these brands are near enough the same prices i would prob go for beko becuase they are the most reconized they even got beko in the u.k the price for a 20" lcd is about £300 and a beko dvd player about £40 you can get cheaper no name brand tv and dvd but i would not reconmend it, here are some prices i got for you

BEKO FS51 20'' LCD 777lira about £300

BEKO FS40 17'' LCD 650lira about £260

VESTEL MILLENIUM 20770 20'' TFT LCD 750lira just under £300

BEKO DVD-2006 DVD 90lira about 90lira about £37

so you looking about £350 for a tv and a dvd i know its a bit more expensive but firstly the price you said for the u.k is prob a no name brand where beko is known and secondly if you buy in cyprus and something goes wrong with it you will have no probs because you will have a guarantee but if you buy it from the u.k you will not be covered

hope this helps you

Hope you didn't think I was being sarcastic when i said Argos, I was just in one of those moods.

I have been looking around for tv's at home, with the thought of bringing one over, but comparing the cost from what you have given above, it's not really worth it. The possibility of damage in transit and warranty etc has swayed my decision, so thanks for the prices. Can you answer one question, in our apartment we have several tv points, can you just plug in and recieve channels, or do you need some sort of licence like the UK?

hi there suntanman

as long as your tv points are actually working (build quality l.o.l) you can plug your tv in and recieve channels but to tell you the truth these channels are no good for you all turksish language programes your best bet is for you to purchase a satelite system for english channels you will need either a dish pointed at the hotbird satelite or at the nilesat satelite or two dishes both of these satelites carry a lot of english channels i.e bbc prime for eastenders (if you like it) movies etc also if you like football then maybe a dish pointed at turksat for fox tv this broadcast at least 3 games on a saturday!!!! with these kind of systems all you do is pay for the equipment and thats it or you can get digiturk (like sky forget about sky you will need a massive 4.5mt dish) which has a lot of english channels you dont pay for the equipment but you pay a monthly fee the cheapest being 19.90ytl (£8) upto 50ytl (£20) full package

and no you dont have to pay a licence fee

p.s like i said you can prob find tv's much cheaper in the u.k but like you said it's a risk transit etc plus the most important part the guarantee

hope this all helps

Don't know if this helps, but in the summer we bought a 19 inch lcd tv with dvd built in from Tesco ! - £197. We checked in the box (unopened) with no problem (on that flight we went BA via Larnaca). The TV arrived perfectly and now sits in our villa. From what I saw in TRNC you are looking at over £350 for a 15 inch basic - no DVD.

Hi we bought our television and dvd from toros in lefkosia i think it was quite a competative price. we have satalite tv but only 4 out of 700 + channels in english those being religious programmes.because we are only there about 8wks ++ a year we didnt take out a contract as it is for a year .it worked out quite expensive for those wks we were there so we have a library of dvd's instead

Hi Ukturk

Thanks for all the information, think we may buy out there. Comparing the prices you have given they are not far off UK prices. Thanks for all the info.

Thanks for the info, it's really helpfull.

I think our site has a central satelite system, not sure of any charges yet, I will have to ask our developers next time I am over.

hi suntaman

no probs mate

with most complex's when they say it has a central satelite system this means they have one or two dishes on the roof (if apartment) or on the land (if villas)and then it is split between the apartments or villas but this still means you have to buy a reciver to recive these channels (unless you one of the luckey ones free reciver) if you have to i reconmend next - goldmaster - humax with these makes you can enter codes in to it to recive most of the pay tv channels

so it might be handy to ask your builder what satelites are the communal dishes pointed at

sorry to go on about it im a bit of a satelite tv buff in my spare time

regards
