Hello everyone, I was wondering whether anyone could help me with the following matter.

My partner is originally from North Cyprus but now lives in England,he born in Limassol in 1973 and shortly after moved to the North for obvious reasons. In 2003 he received a Cypriot ( south) passport.

In 7 weeks time we wish to travel to the United States on his Cypriot passport. We therefore have an interview regarding obtaining a visa at the US embassy on Thursday.

However, whilst looking at the forms that we must fill in, I read the following;"visas for Nationals of North Cyprus may take 60 days or longer". Now I'm in a panic as this would mean he may not receive his visa in time (and miss my sisters wedding!).

Would he still be classed as a National of North Cyprus, even though he has a Cypriot passport which we are planning to use?Or does this just refer to those travelling using a TRNC passport?

I'm totally confused!Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Ca

Carlyrose if he is using the South Cypriot passport then whatever rules apply to the south would also apply to him. I hope this puts your mind at rest and you can go and enjoy the wedding.

If he has a Republic of Cyprus passport (south side) as teresa said, he won't have any problems.

If it's a recently issued/renewed passport with the 'chip' in you'll need to apply for a ESTA waiver visa which can only be done on line costing $14 (£8'ish) with a credit card. Save the number issued or print off and beware of bogus web-sites that pretend to offer this service either taking your details or charging 'over the top' for this simple procedure. Look for the 'USA Border control' logo on top of the web-site.

Any problems E-mail off board.

Here is the ESTA website. It didn't cost me anything.

Note that acceptance of an ESTA application doesn't necessarily assure you of entry to the USA.

Brinsley - are you really such a supercilious pillock, or is it merely an act.

The advice was well meant, and I'm sure Carly will take it as such.

I think most of the World is well aware of some of the visa restrictions your Country imposed to visit certain camps in the 1940's!

South Cyprus is not one of the countries eligible for a visa waiver. The holder of a south Cyprus passport would have to apply for a visa in the normal way. Throught the Embassy in London. The ESTA would not apply in this case. The sooner the visa is applied for the better the chance of having it in time for travel.

Advise to CarlyRose, Address your questions to the people who are in a position to answer them with the correct information. In this case, The American Embassy in London. (as I believe you are in the UK)

Hi there,

I am aware that he will require an interview at the US Embassy, which is scheduled for Thursday.

I guess my question was whether he will be considered as a national of North Cyprus although he holds and intends to travel on a Cypriot passport?

Many thanks for the replies.

Carly
