I have had terrible problems getting a decent connection to quite a few channels, mainly news and bbc entertainment. We took our old box in and exchanged it for a new box which takes scart or hdmi connections to the TV. It is absolutely fantastic, the picture and sound quality is really good. Anyone with an old style box I would definately recommend getting it swopped out. But go early they seem to be really busy swopping out the boxes at the moment.

Our digiturk goes off quite often then resets itself on most channels sometimes every 10 mins or less is this the same as you

Did you have to pay for your new box?

Its only 8TL a month extra if you use the HD option. We got one a few months ago at no extra cost, it has the HDMI cable but we didn't upgrade to the HD service.

Is this the box that allows you to watch one channels and record two others - all at the same time ? IF they give THAT one away you got a bargain !

We re-registered with Digiturk just this week (after having left them 3 years ago) and the difference is absolutely amazing. We paid the extra 8tl a month to have an HD box (having just bought a new 42" telly, we thought we might as well go the whole hog. Well worth it I'd say.

Msg.11 what you are referring to is Digiturk+ (the zapper is virtually identical to the Sky+ zapper). There is an extra charge for that system, not much more than the 8tl we're paying now and we may well change up in a month or two.

Thanks.. I saw this box in pre-production mode - it's made by PACE - who used to make the SKY boxes ..let us know how you get on if you take one.

msg 15, Just had a 3rd Sky hd box replaced in the last 14 months. A crap box from a company that doesn't care about it's customers ! Hear that sky has bought Amstrad and are now making their own boxes ! What aload of crap from a company that charges a lot ! If you get a good offer in Northern Cyprus ( legal or not , in international terms ) grab it and enjoy it. The winters can be long !!

1/ SKY bought out Amstrad over a 4 years ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6923517.stm

2/ Failure rate of HD+ units for us is less than 0.5% .. if you've had THREE HD units in in 14months then SKY should be looking at the installation / where you locate the box / your electricity supply.. SOMETHING's not right...

3/ Try telling them ( SKY) you're cancelling and you'll see if they 'care' ! .. ;)

4/ 'Good offer's' are USELESS if the supplier can't guarantee you continued reception or a refund on any portion of the subscription lost should the subscription suddenly not be possible..

6 m's

Believe me I'm not trying to have an argument with you or anyone and I appreciate your efforts to help but I'm just an ordinary punter who has had a bad experience with Sky. I don't want confrontation, I want good service for the money I pay. I tell the truth, I'm on first name terms with the service guy from Sky who has been in my house a couple of times while a colleague of his has also been here. At the end of the day, all people want is a good service for the money they pay and they don't care if it strictly legal or not ! I know you have your own concerns and note that you get a tough time from some of the posters here, but that has nothing to do with me. I wish you the best but sometimes think you are a bit obsessive, sorry if this offends you !

re msg 18

You didn't 'offend' me.. it's hard to portray feelings / emotions / 'agendas' on here without them being misinterpreted..!

I'm not defending SKY's customer service, I AM wondering WHY you'd get three failures without someone at SKY thinking, " hang on..three failures in 14 months is more than a little bizarre"...

As to getting 'service'.. I'm 'obsessive' about a biz claiming something they can't guarantee to deliver and the effect it will have on punters...*I'm* not pushing a particular service or advertising.. I guess you must think I've an agenda, too ?! ;)

Cocklebay, re 20

>>Just rel on your own judgement and close your ears to the pseudo experts!!!!<<

Hmm, you sound JUST like posters - who've disappeared' who said this about Dopi.. Will you promise to 'hang around' when this 'psuedo' poster is demonstrated to be correct - AGAIN ?

Mess 21 was I referring to you!? I think not, the subject of this thread was Digiturk and I was referring to all the past!, negative comments that have been made about Digiturks service.

Perhaps I am yhe only person who has noticed this trend but there is a certain poster who seems to feel it his sole purpose in life to create arguements on any post involving satellite television systems in North Cyprus that do not fit into his personal approval system, yes Mark, I mean you.

This thread started about Digiturk and yet by the 21st post you have attacked other available sytems and those who supply and service them without them even being mentioned.

I have written to the mods about this pattern and my concern that you are intentionally creating situations where a thread will be closed due to arguements and then you will have yet again achieved your aim of being the only member allowed to talk about television systems in a country that you claim to have no interest in with the exception of helping members of the forum whilst at the same time criticising thier personal choice because you are certain they are wrong in thier own choice.

Please give us a break

6M's no this box does not record anything. It is a replacement box new style with scart and hdmi connections to the tv. All I can say is that channels such as BBC Entertainment and all the news channels are now viewable. Our old box did not work very well as it kept turning itself off and on. Also a lot of the channels were just such bad quality we could not watch them. We pay 52tl a month for the film package and think that it is a very good deal now we have the new box.

I am in the UK and am getting the same problems where the old box is switching it'self off and on. It is a bit difficult to get back to TRNC to change the box.

Is there a receiver I can get in the UK that will take the Digiturk card. I know this will cost, but it's cheaper than going back to TRNC for the sake of a box.

Can I use a HD box without having an HD card and subscription, I appreciate I won't be getting the HD signal, but can I at least use the box.

re msg 23 Proger..

IF you had only bothered to read msg 16... seems like you might be writing to the mods to say I can't respond to specific points, now.. !

Rigsby - you'd better be 'careful' - as I'll be in your part of the world next week - not the Forest .. the place further south.. if you don't REALLY think I'm 'strange' perhaps we can finally meet and toast your 'god' ;)

re 25 Juliamoons

Thanks for letting us know - glad you get a better picture..

re msg 26

Canavar - I THINK you'll find you card is on a older encryption method and the new HD receivers used by D/Turk use another - more robust method. Suggest you wait until your return and get the appropriate receiver matched to your card :(
