With it being our 25th wedding anniversary, we decided to spend our evening with friends at the Pattina after having been there a few years ago and having a great experience. Wow! What a MASSIVE let down!! Firstly there was a rat running along doing a hire wire stunt in the bar. Maybe the restaurant should rename itself to RATina?.....anyway, the food was barely average.......previously it was exceptional. A change of chef I'm told....ummm. Get the other one back! The two lads serving did their best for the evening.....well done and thanks! However, overall it was a major let down compared to our previous visits and compounded by the bill fiasco. I wanted to pay in sterling. Not a problem. Exchange rate? We were offered 2.5......the rate at the time was 2.95!! What are these people on? I do NOT envisage visiting the restaurant again and I will not be recommending it to anyone. I must have told 100plus people in the past to visit it but NOT NOW!! Sorry guys!

Like you we had a terrible meal last year and vowed never again. Reason for the posting is that we also were fleased when it came to the bill. we paid in Euros after asking what the exchange rate was. Then we had the manager demand a further 11 TL because he used a different rate from the one his waiter gave. We objected and had all our money thrown at us and he demanded that we leave. Patina.....you are living on your past reputation

It's a shame it used to be so lovely. It's not just the chefs they changed but all of the staff. Ohan, who was the manager, is now at the lovely Midsummer House which, IMHO, outclasses Patina by miles. Midsummer or Efendi would be my choices for special celebratory meals.

Dashak I have been eating at Erols in Ozankoy for ten years and always had great food. There was a problem last winter when Erol and Caroline took a short retirement, but once they returned everything was back to normal.

You were lucky to get a meal at Patina as we waited over 2 hours for our starter to arrive, even after geeing them up a couple of times. We threw in the towel and just walked out Never again.

I find all these remarks very sad because we went to Patinas within a month of it first opening some years ago now and they advertised themselves as " the only truly 5 star eating establishment in Northern Cyprus". It was lovely, the waiters were excellent and dressed as I would expect in a top class French restaurant and my fish dish and dessert to follow were to die for. The wine was top quality as well. Whatever has happened in the intervening years I wonder?

Based on previous visits I too am really surprised. Infact, on the night I mentioned we were the only people eating there. How do they make their money? Oh, I forget.......exchange rates!!!!

What is this about exchange rates? The currency here is TL why do people simply not pay in TL, no hassle, no argument, This is not Clacton -on-sea

Years ago I was shortchanged, as a tourist, by the " the bo thaai" or similar in Catalkoy. I have not been back since or to their latest incarnation, & informed lots of people what to watch out for (I have a long memory) Why oh why do restuarants & bars here think they take the mick about money & exchange rates.

Ed1957 does have a point though. Exchange rates change all the time and why should a restaurant give you the days rate? they have to go and change it, the rate may have gone down by the time they do and its because you cant be bothered to do it yourself. You wouldnt pay in TL in a restaurant in the UK.

You would if it was an accepted currency. If they are prepared to accept Euro and sterling then they should display the exchange rate

Mr Vince, they would spend more time doing this than their proper job, serving good food. If they forget, or make a mistake there is their profit gone

Ed You make a valid point, but in Patina's case, to quote an exchange rate that is 20% more than that day's rate is inexcusable. It could prove a costly mistake !!! Paul

Hi, We were there 3 weeks ago and I have to say the food and service was not good and was top dollar. There were no other guests that evening so the waiter (dandy, camp bloke in braces) pestered us at our table most of the night telling crap jokes and being over freindly. He behaved like a stand up comedian throughout the whole evening, as he was obviously not busy ( speaks volumes) We went there on recomendation that it had a great reputation but I guess that was years ago? The menu states clearly that the french fries are home made but when we were served with the meals the fries were the cheap frozen variety. After enquiring about this, the waiter agreed and laughed. He was also constantly teasing and taunting my 11 yer old son throughout and at the end of the meal (full stomach) he shoved my lad, fully clothed into the pool. If I was in the UK I would have given the gay waiter a smack and refused to pay In summary, 1 out of 5, poor food/service/rude staff. Dont bo

Msg 33...... this place certanly does have a different take on keeping the customer "happy" and the highwire rodent display is not the only "attraction" served up by this place to accompany the spooky ambience. It is a lonely experience throughout, whist dining here I gazed around at all the empty tables and wondered if all the other customers had dissapeared by some teriible fate! A la Scooby Doo Make you go all cold!! Obviuosly (this place) not for those of a nervous disposition

Got invited to pattina 2 weeks ago as a thank you for helping a couple with there wedding arrangments. Arrived at pattina and there was 12 of us altogether eating. All i can say is that the service , the food ,was top notch and non of the 12 of us who eat there had reason for complaint at any time over the evening. Its the same story , you cannot please all of the people all of the time !

What i find strange that in this day n age with all the fancy phones people have why has no one got a video of the so called rat or cyprus squirrel that they think they have seen ! There is no excuse for not getting a photo or video other than people making up lies as is usually the case on cyprus44 and the need and like to run peoples business down . I can see where all the rats are !

Gone right down the pan that place. We were the only table of four in there a few months ago and we waited over an hour for a starter and then another hour for our main meal. I thought Oscar would have sorted it out by now - or does it no longer belong to the Oscar hotel chain?

Message 42 LANCE I went again last night just to see if i could of been wrong with the service i got and to be honest it was very good again and the food was again of a great standard. Message 41. There was 12 in our party when we went but there was if i remember 9 other people eating. I have nothing to do with this restaurant and have no gain in offering my true opinion of the service we got when we eat there. If we had of had problems we would most defiantly took up our problems direct with the restaurant and not spouted off on cyprus44 where we could get no satisfaction for the service or quality for what we was paying. msg41 i suspect the dandy MC Geezer may of been playing to a table that was also playing , if that is true of how you say the waited conducted himself. The 3 waiters we saw only served food and drinks , there was no singing and dancing , they did what they where paid for and nothing more on the night we was there.

message 40 Lance Guess you must of drank to much . Much the same as most tourists who come here either on holiday or to air there cheap villas. As i said , in todays day n age nearly every phone has a great camera or video built in and if i saw a Rat in a restaurant i would be taking a photo to back up my story,if as you say you saw it in the bar area . I think Roland was and still is in disguise. Again talk is cheap with out evidence. Ciao Lance.
