Hi all,

Does anyone know roughly what companies deal with internet access (not dongles) and roughly how much it costs out here in sunny Cyprus.

Thank you

Various companies offer deals. I pay for a year at a time. it is cheaper and there are various levels. If you are in the Kyrenia area, go and see Laconic computers and see what they offer. I have been dealing with them for 10 years. Or there is Sunny Cyprus (they are located near Lemar karakum) - they have been aorund a long time, and various others. Lots of choices nowadays and we are almost spoilt for choice, except some are more reliable than others.

Listen to what people say, do your homework and then go for it. Personally, I have my broadband AND a dongle - just for insurance.

andrew4232 is right, if you have a phone line within ADSL coverage area, we are currently offering 4Mbit packages for 250TL/year

Hi Kemal,

Looks good. Are your wireless packages "limited".

Nethouse (for example) applies "fair use" limits to its "eco" wireless packages (priced similarly to yours). If you use over 6-7gb in any 24 hour period, they limit your speed to 1mbps for 24 hours.

So, even if you use 1gb per day for 10 days and decide to download a couple of movies in the 11th, the next 24 hours will be 1mbps. And that is not really ideal if you need your connection for your work.

Also, what is your contention ratio?

Hey tyalgin,

If you cant stay up 24 hours a day and use our Internet, then I guess you yourself are the only limitation for our service.

Joking aside, our packages are not 'limited' in any way, it is actually just the opposite, we have a smart bandwidth limiting features that allows you to download more that your actual speeds if the load on the basestation is suitable.

We also have a fair use policy: We think its fair for our customers to use high speed, low cost internet without any gimmicks or deception.

Simply put, because our network system is different than ordinary networks where 'contention ratio' indicated something, the term 'contention' or 'contention ratio' does not apply to or mean anything significant in our system.

Thunderkat,

I've been using Multimax for a couple of months now and I'm absolutely delighted with it. Kemal has omitted the facts that you can contact him almost 24/7 if you have a problem (even he needs to sleep occasionally!) and if you want to watch UKTV, you don't need a VPN; it's built in to his system.

And as you'll see if you look through this forum, if he has a problem he'll let you know why and how long he expects it to last - unlike other companies who try to deny that it's their problem!

I recommend his system unreservedly.

Ok so I understand your fair use policy is different from the one I described above (the 24 hour period). Any more details?

We do NOT have a fair use policy.

We have usage policy(UP)/Terms and Conditions(TOC), which limits the way you can use our connection. Highlights from this include:

* You cannot resell, distribute or share multimax connection to other premises (in-house sharing is permitted, sharing accross apartments is not)

* You cannot multimax our Internet for illegal activities

You can find our prices in my msg 5.

Who is that with anchorite ?

Is it 8GB total upload / download per month ?

The speeds look like 3G, mobile phone based service but the price looks much cheaper than Turkcell and Tellsim prices ?

you can download 8GB of data with multimax basic 2Mbit connection in about 8 hours, what are you planning to do in the next 29 days and 16 hours?

For a home connection for me, an 8GB montly download limit would be no use. As I am sure you know with my multimax connection I can and do download hundreds of GB per month and very nice it is to be able to do so with a 10mbs connection that you supply me.

However I am always curious about options available in general. If this is a 3g based service and can be bought monthly it might be useful to people only visiting for a month or so, like my mother does on occasions. The price seems to be much cheaper than what I understand the Turkcell and Telsim prices are currently. It may even tempt me for mobile usage outside my house. I have my eye on either the new nexus prime smartphone or possibly a samsung galaxcy S2. If I do give in to this temptation, a good priced 3G data plan will be of interest to me.

Then again maybe it is not 3g at all.
