New here. We are thinking about moving to TRNC over the next year. I have an offer of work and we have been looking at houses. I just wonder what people think of living in TRNC because it is very rainy here in Blighty at the moment.

Any comments on moving to and on life in the TRNC are appreciated.

I suggest the first thing to do would be to visit your bank ASAP and mortgage yourself up to the nines because the more you invest in the TRNC the better.

If you really do your homework you will find it is best to rent, as buying is just too risky. The conveyancing laws give no protection to the buyer.Advocates do not have a duty of care. You can end up responsible for the developers debts and there is no legal obligation for the seller to give you the deeds. Not to mention the fact that you have to pay in full before getting your PTP. If it is refused you will never own the property. Success is based only on luck. Lots of people are still without deeds 5 years later.

Rent and put your money in the bank. Dip your toe in the water and see if you like Cyprus before really committing yourselves. It's a bit like Marmite, some love it, others hate it. You can only find this out if its for you by taking the gamble.

Renting will give you this opportunity without losing your hard earned cash.

Good Luck

North Cyprus is not to everyone's taste and those who jump in the deep end expecting a life of leisure by the pool and particularly forget about "caveat emptor" become very disillusioned and spoil it for everyone else.

Dont burn your bridges - rent for a year or two (as a lawyer I assume you know the snags of renting in the UK)

and try it for a while, but try to accept and enjoy it for what it is, and not try to change in to litte England in the sun. Also give yourself time to see which area and lifestyle you prefer -

Dont expect too much of the climate - it sounds very attractive from rainy UK, but at this time of year it is so

hot and humid it is like living in a sauna! Whereas Jan Feb and March and wet and windy - although is rarely goes below freezing and then not much, those three months are more like a traditional English March.

Currently work permits are difficult for "foreigners". Make sure your prospective employer understands and has arranged a permit,

Do your homework. Read about the history of the Island and the TRNC and understand the problems of lack of international recognition. This will prepare you for the snags of living here, and help you to understand where the Turkish Cypriots are "coming from" and the reason for some apparent illogicalities.
