Hi. Can any person recommend a good honest solicitor ?. One that you can trust and is not afraid to challenge authority if needs be. I realise that this is a tall order and that none may exist in Northern Cyprus. I have heard conflicting stories in regards to a well regarded Advocate in Girne, your help is appreciated. andyb.

99% of them are bent especially the ones based in Girne. Look for a Law Practice in Nicosia. Richard

Quite a strong opening argument. Would any Girne based lawyer care to come on the board and argue their defence?

I love people with a sense of humour It reminds me of the saying...."In God we trust, all others pay cash" Guess you pay your money, and take your choice! My replacement lawyer is from Nicosia. wynyardman

I used Funda Kusadali recently. Honest and reliable really on top of her game which is unusual here. I will be using her again when i buy another house soon. 054258561109. Her office is near the Zeus Casino Girne. I know other people who would recommend her also.

I also used Peyman Erginel back in 2002 when purchasing my property. She also wrote the contract for the builder to sign. I would recommend her to anyone.

Try Izzy OKRAY .he has done 3 properties for us and other work entirly seperate from properties. His right hand girl is Sylvia .Both speak English (Sylvia from London) TEL 03928157989 the office is opposite the law courts---a single road between the old buildings(not near the bus parking or the far end 1 way street) ,go half way up it to a carparking area on the left. go thru the car park to the block of offices facing you and in the centreis the door-up the stairs and its the door on the right. absolutely no problems with Izzy and his team & have known them for 7 years.

| An old post of mine from 12/7/09 [Okay; Gurkan & Gurkan and Mehmet Bilimer, two Girne based rogue Law firms. The first didn't do all what he promised to do after been paid, the latter took my money and did absolutely nothing and lied! Both to be avoided at all costs or use at your own risk! Let them sue me for libel! Richard] PS Neither of the two above mentioned Law practices, after my numerous posts on C44 repeatedly naming them for their corrupt and money making scams have contacted or threatened me. They have yet to defend, deny or refute my allegations. Guilty by silence? As mentioned before, the reading of C44 is read by many in authority or of influence who would inform these renegades of what is written/said about them so, 'Bring It On' you big girl blouse bullies! | Some very unfair posts here with little substance - I have used Naomi Mehmet & Partners and there are a couple of points that set her apart from some of the others. My money is held in a client account and she accounts for it as frequently as I need which is the same as solicitors accounting rules in the UK. I have always found that she has answered all queries quickly and kept me up to date. Having said this I had a very bad experience with my transaction and it is ongoing - the firm I bought from are in dispute with the landowner, together they had a partnership to sell me (and several others) an off villa. The villa was very poorly finished since taking it over I've had to do an enormous amount of work to it, very late almost 2 years late, compensation as per contract was not paid and a series of other issues. The contract was fine, it was just that the developers did not adhere to it. If this happens any where in the world you have a choice sue or accept the amendments co |

to contract - the legal process in Cyprus and most places in the world is expensive, slow and there are no guarantees. Add to this the fact that Cyprus has "specific performance" as an issue then the best you are going to get back if you sue is your money which was not the point. So the moral to the story is that it is not the solicitor that makes the nightmare but the developer and you cannot do enough due diligence about this. Buying a property that is already built and has title deeds is probably the only real way to avoid any hassles. Having said all this buying off plan has it's own set of problems all over the world -

Message 28: "The contract was fine, it was just that the developers did not adhere to it. If this happens any where in the world you have a choice sue or accept the amendments co" Not many contracts are 'fine' as most are not worth the paper they are written on, the landowners or builders will always find a way of getting around them, for instance by saying a memorandum was taken out on the land BEFORE the contract was signed. To date and as far as I am aware, suing has never got anyone their money back, you may win the case but will NEVER see a penny of your money.
