Does anyone have any info to share about marble swimming pools?

I'm thinking about using marble rather than ceramic tiles but I'm not sure if marble is suited for the job.

Can marble be used? What type of marble? Any marble pools in the TRNC? Anyone built marble pools before?

Thanks

Just avoid marble pool terraces (if wet they are incredibly slippery / dangerous)

If you use marble, be aware it is porous, so you better make sure your rubberised layer underneath the fixing cement is good, but more so, it will mark relatively easy compared to tiles if you have ph fluctuation, and you will have ph fluctuations.

You will also deffinitely get marks around the waterline if you build a skimmer, or if the water level frops in an overflow. Take a look at the steps in many pools, and the marks at the water level.

Also bear in mind if you just throw your acid in to lower the ph, where it lands on the bottom will etch very quickly and show marks.

When standing in the water, the bottom will be very very slippery. So, don't try to walk up the slope from the deep end to the shallow end.

We did build some Marbelite pools a few years ago and they have stood up well. Marbelite is a crushed marble with the consistency of granular sugar mixed with white Portland cement, We imported it from the UK. It is troweled onto the pool walls and floors and buffed up with a wet polisher. They are not slippery, by any means.
