Another quiz question........ A player scores 3 goals in a game of football without any other player touching the ball....how? Its not a trick question, though its more unlikely than the maximum snooker break of 155.

The internet is a mind of information if you search .. It's near the end of the first half, and the player in question scores an own goal. In disgust he retrieves ball from his net. His team then has the re start, so that same player takes the kick-off, kicking directly for the opponent's goal and is fouled in the penalty box. He takes the spot-kick and scores. Ref then blows whistle for half-time, goal scorer retrieves ball from net and hands to ref. At the start of the second half, ref hands match ball to goal scorer who resumes play with kick-off, hits ball into opposing penalty area again and is brought down, penalty. He scores from the spot, no other player has touched the ball during the three-goal sequence.

PMF68 No. first thought it was Mick Mills, but remembered David as my local club Hull City had tried to buy him but he chose to go to WBA. Just did go onto internet, and todays Daily Mail has put a story on about transfers, and it says David Mills was transfered in Jan79 for 516K, but also says Gordon McQueen went from Leeds to Man U for 500K in Feb 78.

Afraid not Bill. It was actually Millfields Road, Clapton then home of Clapton Orient (now Leyton). The visit was by the then Prince of Wales, later to be Edward VIII, in recognition of the 41 players and staff who joined up en-masse to the "Footballers Battalion" (17th Middlesex Regiment) during World War 1. Clapton Orient beat Notts County 3-0 on 30th April 1921. Martinev

Herbert Chapman is regarded as one of the greatest football managers in England. He set up the Huddersfield Town side that won the old Division 1 championship for 3 successive years, and then went to Aresnal and did likewise. Can you name the now defunct football club that Huddersfield acquired his services?

msg 30: they weren't actually defunct, had problems, yeah, even then so changed their name to the one they have now. I won't post the answer as I checked with wikipedia to make sure I was right, I was actually but will leave the question for those who rely on their own knowledge of soccer history. T

Cyprusgiant/Minertor Must have been Leeds city. Pity we cannot get as decent a manager for Man City, Mancini has no clue how to manage players, fancy bringing on defensive midfielder last night for a forward when 2 - 0 down. He cannot manage forwards, look how he fails with Tevez/ Bellamy/ Adebayor he also does not seem to play players where they seem to be best at look at Boteng at Bayern Munich.

japeal; Did you ever see Mancini play? He and Vialli were a great tandem up front for Sampdoria. Boateng is not a striker. Tevez should be shot.

Agree Boateng is not a striker, but Mancini never played him in his strongest defensive position. There always appear to be Player problems with Mancini, yes he was a good player himself, managed by good man managers. But from the begining at Man City he appearded not to manage players very well. Lets hope he can sort things out otherwise we may need a new manager.
