I am totally confused by the number of conflicting opinions about the safety, or otherwise, of expats buying property in Northern Cyprus. Does anybody really know how things stand and, if so, will they please share the secret once and for all?

''Does anybody really know how things stand and, if so, will they please share the secret once and for all?' The 'secret' has been shared countless times over the years --NO,NO,NO, and still people ask if its safe. The information is there.

The quote, "you can take a horse to the water, but ----------", springs to mind. Or these are spoof posters.

Martin this is a 2009 article and the Greek Cyp issue has been superseded by the IPC being put in place by Turkey this stops orams type cases by the EHCR ruling something that cannot happen in the south as their property guardian is obstructive in the rules it lays down The real problem is with banks and builders not releasing property deeds and having mortgages on them even though the buyer has paid for them in full on both sides the FCO says don't buy in Cyprus North & South

Wait for the repercussions from the Gary Rob case and lets see then if its safe to buy then This is more relevant than the Orams IPC are only effective if the GC owner of the property you have purchased, uses it and accepts financial compensation. However the IPC has been very underused and most GC are choosing to wait until there is a settlement. So no one has a crystal ball and knows what the outcome will be. Andre thinks that if there is unification with the ROC your house price will rocket. I think you will be doomed if it's a holiday home and will be lucky to hang onto your ownership should this happen. Those with residency maybe lucky but will be asked for compensation payments or some sort of leasehold payment. That's the problem we have assumptions but not fact. The only fact, is that in any settlement, the needs of expats will be at the bottom of the list of priorities.

I agree with Bradus, If there is a reunification/settlement, there is "no" reason to assume that it will go in favour of the Ex-pat community, it may well go against them...
