The Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız has said that if the Greek Cypriot side starts offshore drilling activities in the Mediterranean Turkey will respond to this in a week adding that the Turkish Navy ships will accompany the Turkish seismic research vessels in the area. The Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız has evaluated the crisis derived from the Greek Cypriot side’s oil and gas exploration activities.

Noting that the Greek Cypriot side’s drilling activities are illegal, Mr. Yildiz said if the Greek Cypriots commence drilling this will be evaluated as a provocation.



‘If the Greek Cypriots commence drilling, then the Continental Shelf Delimitation Agreement is ready to be signed between Turkey and the TRNC’ said Yildiz.



He also added that within this framework the Turkish Petroleum Corporation would start its drilling activities in the Mediterranean as soon as next week.
