Read in the Birmingham Post that there are now 'direct' flights to North Cyprus, but they touch down in Turkey! Am I missing something here? Direct means non-stop to me! Is this 'stop on the way' thing normal for North Cyprus flights?

As far as I know, there is no such thing as direct non-stop flights to TRNC with the exception from Turkey. Therefore, all international flights must go via Turkey. That’s the legal position. Unfortunately, I just read hot of the press that the Britain rejected direct flights to TRNC ( http://www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&link=103752&bolum=102). Hopefully, this situation may improve one day as the TRNC administration is lobbing the international community to lift this restriction. Adi

Yeah, this is a real pain - the stop-over is the rule. Any direct flights to North Cyprus advertised are not direct at all - they land in south Cyprus and then bus you across the border. Not too bad time-wise but not direct by any means. Anyway, the touchdown in Turkey is not too bad - you usually just sit on the tarmac and then take off again. At least you avoid the scrum at Larnaca or Paphos airports - Ercan airport in North Cyprus is usually much more relaxed and uncrowded.
