It depends on how much you have to invest and what currency you want to invest in.

Far better to talk to the bank direct to get the right answers.

Looked at web site but I couldn't actually find any rates being given.

Thanks for the info Ed, I have heard they are a very good safe bank here, and in turkey are the 2nd largest.

For various reasons mentioned above, plus we heard it was no longer Turkish government owned, we left this bank and now bank with Ziraat Bank, which certainly is Turkish government.

Taken from Wikipedia:

Garanti Bank is the second largest-private bank in Turkey with US$90 billion in assets as of December 31, 2010. On November 2nd, 2010 BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria), Spain's second largest bank, acquired 24.9% stake in Garanti Bank for $5.8 billion. Garanti provides retail, commercial, corporate and private banking services to ten million customers

I think Garanti is as safe as any in this country. You can also buy gold with them if you want to make your money safer. It's a bit late now though. Year ago gold was about $800 an ounce, just look at it now! Where else would you get those returns.

Re 10

One year ago gold was trading at just under $1300 an ounce not $800 BUT a 34% gain none the less...

What is more impressive is the 5year gain on gold is 195%!

There is talk that gold will go to $2000 plus by the end of the year.

Why not go into Garanti and discuss it with them. I have a friend who moved into gold about 18 months ago, you can tell he's smiling now. He thought that the returns on "ordinary" bank accounts was not enough and just went for it.
