Why don't you go to the Nike shop in Lefkosa, plenty of the real thing there (expensive). Go to the roundabout when you enter Lefkosa, follow the road into Lefkosa (dual carriage way) for a few hundred yards and you will see the Nike building on your right. You will need to cross the dual carriage way and approach via a side road.

Haven't a clue, wandered around looking at the prices of sports shoes and decided the Wednesday market gear was quite good enough for me.

Yes! And everything is overpriced. Not sure if they are "real" Nike made in China either. The same goes for Adidas. Fly to Istanbul for a day (for the price of a pair of shoes) and buy all you need at a fraction of the cost around Taksim Square. You are not paying for quality here, but for the upkeep of shops with very expensive rent.
