We have a dalmation/greyhound cross dog that will not leave our back garden. We have fed it as it was on the verge of death. It has obviously been badly treated as it was cowering almost flat to the ground when it appeared. However, it has responded to some kind words and is now a friendly, very intelligent animal that has a lot of potential with the right owners. She is fine in the company of cats and is quite young we think as she loves to play with anything, even a stick or a stone. We cannot keep her as we do not have the room with 15 cats to feed already. We have called her Gracie as she is an elegant, graceful animal. She is white with a light brown spots and brown ears. If anyone wants a loyal friend or companion then this is the dog for you. Please give her a chance as she deserves one after the poor start she obviously has had. Many thanks for reading this and fingers crossed that you are the one that can save her. Bowl and a supply of dog food included!

There is one here much like the one described above, brown head with black markings on white.

Will not leave our garden and as we already have two dogs and 6 cats we just could not keep her.

She looks as if she has been well fed but ill treated as she cowers but loves to be petted and comes to you with tail going at great speed.

We are going to England for a few weeks and trying to get our own dogs looked after so another dog would make it even harder.

Hope that both these dogs find good homes.

Why will she be put down? Could you not pay for her to be spayed and neutered and then become a street dog. I know many people are against this procedure, but a lot of dogs learn to adapt and live like this for 6 or 7 years. You could also try KAR, I know they a well over stocked with about 286 animals to look after, however, as she is a female the just MIGHT take her. You have to decide whether to send her to a life in prison OR a few years on the streets, which believe or not some dogs prefer. What musn't happen is for her to be on the streets and NOT spayed. She would probably die of exhaustion having litter after litter or get involved in fights. What Vet would put her down I wonder?

"...a few years on the streets, which believe or not some dogs prefer..."

So a dog, covered in ticks and fleas, mange, what-have-you; thirsty, hungry, kicked by humans who do NOT welcome a dog with pleading eyes begging for sustenance coming near them or their children, maybe suffering from cancer, ringworm, or some other ailment, but of course, not able to tell anyone (aside from you that is, who is clearly privy to the joys of the life of a feral dog)! spending every day dodging vehicles OR causing an accident where either a human is badly injured, or the dog is (who then drags itself away, to maybe die in agony, covered in flies)...

I simply can't believe what I am reading - and would think ANY kind Vet would put a homeless animal down rather than condemn it to the above life. Treat a human like that, you would be imprisoned before your feet touched the ground.

"Put down" a human being because they were homeless and a nuisance might also attract imprisonment - worse in some countries!

The dogs around central Girne are nearly all spayed/neutered and tagged dogs. They know which of the cafes will feed them, the cafe owners keep an eye on them, some even have collection boxes outside their premises for people to help towards their welfare. The same goes for a lot of the harbour people. They learned it was better to do it this way than have uneutered and unspayed dogs which causes endless fights. Other street dogs come under no ones ownership but neighbours take it in turns to feed them. This happens to both dogs and cats.
