For the last 3 mornings we have come downstairs to at least a dozen creepies on our kitchen ceiling .

They look like tiny little maggots and are definitely alive ...ugh !

We have had all the cupboards and kitchen appliances out , taken down the light fittings and searched everywhere but cannot find the source .

Does anyone know of something we can spray to get rid or someone we can contact for advice?

Lizards , ants etc I can cope with ....these I can't.

Hi macro 2.do not worry about these maggot type things they are not harmful.

Either knock them down and dispose of or spray with SERTEX in the orange spray tin.read the directions for use on the back of the tin -it is in English.

Hi Marco.

You'll need to find where they come from and kill them at source. We've found them in open and UNOPENED packets of, oatmeal, pulses and porridge and were in our storage jars. You'll see a cobweb like mist inside the packets / jars and the oats etc seem to stick to it. We found the maggots squirming inside a small tube of knorr stock paste and inside the cornflakes packets - even unopened ones from accross the border. It seems the eggs are already in the pulses etc that you buy and hatch at their natural time. We've had them in goods bought from both sides of the border. The manager of Tempo wasn't upset when we showed him a packet of bulgar wheat with the maggots in it! Seems like that's normal? We now keep all opened packets in sealable containers and don't have too much in the larder. It is a case of double checking before you buy or use. The source can be difficult to find but unless you do they will return.

I think these maggot things turn into the 'Food Moths' that float around in our utility room..

Am hoping once we have it ripped out, cleaned, painted and new fittings we won't have any more! As Deksi said sometimes the eggs are inside packages so even if they are sealed they can still hatch inside and turn into the moths..

Check things before you buy and even if they look safe what I now do is put the package into the freezer for a few days- this kills any eggs lurking inside! Then once I open the package it goes into a tupperware box which stops any other moths getting inside and laying new eggs..

ctd...

Sounds a bit OTT but I am sick of everything becoming infested, they particularly seem to like Flour and Paprika!

You can buy these flat pieces of card with sticky tape on the back and fly trap glue on the front- stick some of those in the cupboards and you will see just how many appear.. Or hang fly traps inside they also will go to those.

Apparently they hate Bay Leaf so I also fill mesh bags with bay leaves and put those in all the cupboards. We had the infestation in the last house we stayed at but after sorting through the cupboards, checking every bag and jar and throwing out the ones full of creepy crawlies and bleaching the inside of the cupboards plus using the methods above I got rid of them. Suddenly the traps were clear. Just have to do the same in this new house!

Good Luck

Just a warning - check for termites!!!!

We thought we had ants in the house, tried to kill them but that didn't work. Then one day I saw something moving in one of our door frames moving only to find that termites were in the door frame and eating it away.

We had to take the frame out and burn it - disgusting as there were thousands of termites - winged ones, ones without wings that look similar to ants and tiny white ones. Thankfully they hadn't got into the door itself.

We still haven't had the door frame replaced as I keep worrying that they will come back. So just keep a check on creepy crawlies.

The difference being that ants have sectioned bodies and termites don't - their bodies are the same size as ants but one piece, not in sections.

Thanks for responses guys . Checked all pulses etc in food cupboard and found a moth in a sealed muesli box . Had never dreamt these sort of things could be the source. Will take all advice and keep fingers crossed .
