Well if true - it may annoy Turkey but it will alienate The ROC and cause friction with the many Arab states with whom it has historically enjoyed good relations. Lets not forget there is a sizeable Arab Christian and Moslem population in the south!

Not just an Arab population but the 3rd most holy shrine in the Islamic world lies next to the salt lake at Larnaca.

what a load of bollox . if greek cyprus was to persuade isreal to station some of its fighter wing in the south they would be sitting ducks for the turkish air force which out number isreals by ten to one . it would also go down as a bad move by isreal and end with some so called friendly arab states like egypt no longer being friendly. greek cyprus would call on greece to defend it should it come to war which it may well do.

Just a passing thought. In the unlikely event of there being a conflict between Turkey and Israel, isn't it part of the NATO charter that any member that is attacked has to be supported by all other members?

this is what is often referred to as "asparagus news"! Israel does not have the balls to do any such thing. Far too many obstacles, including the UK "SOVEREIGN" bases in Larnaca and Limasol. Turkish military does not have to do anything either. There are enough Palestinians living in the South, who would just love to blow those aircraft to smithereens. Will Israel expose its air-force and take such a chance? I do not think so somehow!

Not SO long ago, Cyprus was a place were Israel wasn't popular as they were buying tracts of land in the 'north' and Cyprus has a Palestinian 'Embassy' - supporting them against occupation by Israel.. Israel and TR fall out and Israel and Cyprus have a new common interest... NOTHING surprises me, any more .. If the French can use Paphos as a Helicopter base, occasionally, Russians train Cypriots to fly their military choppers, the British have their bases and listening posts, why not Israeli planes ?!

There is a considerable amount of Lebanese investment in the ROC any collusion with the enemy, (Lebanon is still at war with Israel) would jeopardise that. One thing the bubbles are very aware of is money!!!

I think someone should remind Russia, they are not the USSR any more! The Russian Armada does not scare anyone in the Mediterranean - that part of the World is a NATO lake!
