I've (I have) always thought that the confusion arises from the contraction " should've " (should have) which can sound a bit like "should of" - and I've (I have ) found a website that agrees with me: -

- So it must be true!

It was totally hypothetical the amphitheartre .. The only thing that came to mind ..



Omaintenance is one person who uses "of" instead of "have" ..

How about the 'double contraction' - " shouldn't've " - short for 'should not have' - and yes, it's quite legitimate.

I've heard it contracted even further in slang speech to 'shunta' as in "Yer shunta dun dat"
