I am sorry that I was not at the launch party on Saturday, nor will I be visiting in the future. Lapta is much too far away. Would the committee consider moving to a more central location, that would meet all the needs of the RBL whilst meeting the needs of members living East and West of Girne!

Cocklebay, If they move further east then it will be too far for the people from Sandramazkoy, Guzelyurt etc. You can please some of the people some of the time, but, you can't please all of the people all of the time! Chris

All will be explained at the first Branch meeting this evening which commences at 7.30pm at the Waterfront restaurant. I can assure you that this decision was not taken lightly. Brian

As long term members of the RBL, St James branch, we also find this location too far away to travel from home.

NURSEAWFUL with respect here I think there would be a much larger contingent in and around Girne than Guzelyurt and Sandramazkoy, where ever that is, many people will be bitterly disappointed it is not going to be in a central area

I believe it's something to do with being held on original Turkish Cypriot owned land, i.e The Waterfront.

Why not take up the Major's offer and go tonight and learn all about it. as I understand it, it has been a huge headache to find a suitable premises (with the emphasis on suitable for all kinds of legal and logistic reasons), and it was due to generosity of Gordon Kent that waterfront is available. I doubt there are any other suitable premises (legally and logistically) that exists at the present. anyway, this place is not that big, is it. I have friends in Australia that travel 200 miles to the cinema, so I am sure that a few kms here should not deter people for something they really want to do and be a part of. as has been said ;' you can't please all the people all the time' and my thinking and that of many is that a HUGE, LOUD thank you should be sent to the people who have sweated for the last three years to bring this to fruition. Well done lads, and I hope you get the 1000 members that is hoped for! (dreamed of maybe, but possible certainly)

I am a RBL member, both Pall Mall and Girne Branch. I live 60 kms from Lapta (120 kms return) and would have preferred a central location. However, the decision to base the Branch at The Waterfront Restaurant has been made and will not change via comments on C44. Go to the monthly meetings and argue your case there so members can hear the points for/against, express their feelings and vote if required.

I cannot believe that there are people complaining about the location of the RBL - get a life!! Just because you are a member of St James's the Club should be moved for you, how many people travel to Korineum or MBC Golf Courses, go south shopping or go to Girne itself. I too am a member of Pall Mall and live in Beirut at pres, can I complain as its my nearest RBL to me. No I cant and would not as I am grateful for others hard work and endeavours in actually establishing one in the region. So stop thinking of yourselves and support the RBL sorry some have to travel more than most but you cannot please everyone.

If you are referring to my post as msg 8, I think you have misunderstood, misread or misinterpreted what I wrote and should read it again, as I have gone back over it 3 times and cannot see where I complained. What I said was those who do object to the location should refer their concerns to the Committee/Members at the Branch meetings. However, it may be living/working in Beirut brings its own issues. Whilst my personal involvement with the RBL is not your concern, I am a volunteer case worker in training here in the TRNC and have been active within the RBL for over 40 years - my conscience is clear and with that - !

Tomsteel, If you RTFQ then you will see that you did not refer to Pall Mall as being St James, so in no way have I misunderstood your posting. Yours actually are very unbiased and lucid and wish others shared your view. Well done for you taking the time to train as a Volunteer Case Worker and hppy for you that your concience is clear and may I personally thank you for your involvement within the RBL.
