Undersea fiber optic line for Turkish Cyprus Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim attended the inauguration ceremony of the Turkey-TRNC TURCYOS-2 Fiber Optic Line System, which is 213 km long with a 196-km part of it under sea bed. Turkey's Turk Telecom, the country's biggest fixed line phone operator, on Wednesday launched an undersea fiber optic internet line for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or TRNC. Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim attended the inauguration ceremony of the Turkey-TRNC TURCYOS-2 Fiber Optic Line System, which is 213 km long with a 196-km part of it under sea bed. The line aims at meeting the increasing voice, Internet and data traffic in the TRNC and faster access to new generation technologies. "TURCYOS-2 will further boost communication network between Turkey and the TRNC. We need to expand highways of communication if we do not want to face setbacks like we did in past years," Yildirim said.

Perhaps they could hook the long promised and awaited and desperately needed 'hosepipe' onto this cable while they're at it? Talk about 'getting one's priorities right' - what a joke!

This cable follows a different path (From Hatay in Turkey to Famagusta) than the current one we have which lands in Girne. Both cables will meet in Lefkosa. Currently, there are no capacity problems with the existing fiber, however, this one should provide adequate redundancy for all Internet and Voice traffic, if properly configured. Kemal
