what age does a car have to be before it can be imported from the UK

I dont know much about costs it depends alot about engine size and car details etc. But I am aware that the car must not be older than 5 years. If it is I think there is some loop hole where if you have owned it for over 5 years you can bring it, but if you buy an already older car and not owned it for 5 years I dont think they allow it. Confusing but I hope that helps a little

I just went for a quote to import a Jaguar XK8 for a friend. Value in UK is around £6000. Its a 1996 model and customs quoted £20,000!!!!

Only worth importing a car from the UK if it has a small engine capacity (1.3?)and has a low value (£2000?)

i thought it was 5 years or less, are they making changes to it I think 5 years is too new they should relax it a bit to maybe 10 years.

You may import a car upto 5 years old if you intend to settle here and "qualify", otherwise its 3 years old and pay duty at port on arrival. If you've owned your car for more than 5 years you may also import it.
