Don't get your hopes up too much, it was due to the weather conditions at Antalya airport yesterday a 5 flights due there were diverted. 4 went to Paphos airport, but one operated by a UK airline landed at Ercan.

Anybody see which airline it was? I know EasyJet, Thomas Cook, Thomson & Monarch all have flights to Antalya from the UK. Not often if ever you'd see one of these at Ercan!

I read the story here: http://www.starkibris.net/index.asp?haberID=102817

Unusual yesterday pm a jet flew into Ercan straight over Belapais

so what you might say

That is the flight path out from ercan

Usually come in over St Hiralion or out east towards the Karpas to glide down to Ercan

too cloudy to see but a very direct steep and noisy decent

probably 2+2=5

Could be? Who knows...

We still live in hope of proper non-stop direct flights and not the odd one like this due to weather conditions. But I've stopped holding my breath a long time ago!

If it was a weather diversion,

It wasn't a direct flight.

Original post is misleading!

it certainly WASN'T 'direct' on the way back ...

"But when it was ready to leave Cyprus, Ankara forced the {Dutch airline] flight to land on the Greek island of Kos before continuing on to Turkey due to its ban on air and sea traffic from the government-controlled areas of Cyprus."

Once upon a time there used to be flight that really did fly direct from Stansted to Ercan. It left Stansted late at night and was on a Thursday I think. It's sole purpose was to bring passengers who they had to turn down on earlier flights back in the days when people were coming over in hordes to look at potential properties. It was not published and did not fly every week, just when needed. Apparently it had to be hushed up but I knew someone who was put on it twice (about 6 years ago). I suspect it was CTA.

Tango1. Yes I knew people who came into Pia Bella Hotel from the Standsted flight apparently there were two flights at more or less the same time, one came direct the other called into Antalya, I asked a CTA Captain friend about this he said it should not have happened.

Direct flight to Ercan from Stansted, this has happened to us 3 times in two years, I think it's more about weather conditions than anything political. just shows what nonsense it all is..

I was on one of those flights and so was my daughter. Separate years but there were two flights left Stanstead about 9.30pm and 10pm on a sunday. Anyone going to get off in turkey went on one and the other flew straight here. 4 1/2 hrs it was great.

Sorry to be pedantic but the correct technical term for a flight that goes directly from point a to point b without any intermediary stops is a non-stop flight. A flight can be direct and yet still stop on route, what defines it as direct technically is the flight number does not change when it stops.

So technically there are no offical direct or non-stop flight from TRNC other than to Turkey.

Cocklebay. Yes I did ask a CTA Captain, I didn't say it was recently Tango said once upon a time and I was replying to him saying that, said Captain now works for Pegasus.

To confirm.

Yes, i have flown direct from Stansted to Ercan twice on the defunct CTA. My family has also flown direct on a number of occassions about 5/6 years ago. This was not down to weather conditions but as Deniz1 said the two evening Thursday evening flights were "arranged" so as passengers to Antalya were put on one plane and those to Ercan on the other. As stated, not announced until you were airbourne.

Yes, I'm aware of some of the CTA flights in the past..

Unsure where MarkVPiazza msg 11 heard, but it might be a Monarch flight on this occasion, that flew non-stop from a UK airport to Ercan..

mmmmm's link is talking about one of the other flights diverted to Paphos airport.

Seems that when UK police/interpol want something from TRNC police, they know where to come.. Similarly, when they need a place to divert to they can find Ercan.. Don't you love politics!

You mean like Turkey recognising the Rep. of Cyprus for the duration of their hosting the Eurovision Song Contest ? ;)

The RoC flag was flown and Cyprus was called Cyprus - but during the voting no map of the country was shown..

Cocklebay. msg 15. Maybe you should stay off the wine while you are on the forum, you read into things that are not there, MarkVPizza msg 8 when he said it was Monarch was answering to the post about a flight from UK to Ercan, and then you trying to make me out as telling lies.

Eurovision song contest, also Sport, I'm sure Fenerbahce have played in the south. Surely, they should have been fined by the Turkish Football Association for playing in an unrecognised country?

As I say, when it comes to governments/politics/tax man, they do as they want to suit themselves, and apply it retrospectively...

We flew direct on 23rd June 2007 with CTA, evening flight from Manchester. Thank god because our cat was in the hold and not very happy. Maybe the pilot liked Cat's.

Also a few months later again with CTA from B,ham I think. (maybe Sept.) same year.

Just a thought on this nonsense situation and how to achieve a resolution.

Clearly the costs of two landing and take off's serves no practical purpose other than to produce more green house gasses incurr significant more costs and penalise the people travelling.

If one were able to calculate the total costs of the flights to Ercan via the mainland I suspect it would total many thousands of pounds.

Why not make a donation of this total to a Greek Cypriot Hospice in return for direct Travel into Ercan.

We flew non stop from Manchester to Ercan in July 2007! The plane was delayed in Man. - not unusual for Manchester flights - we were not told until we were airborne but obviously no one complained. We have since had delays in Manchester but have had to stop off in Turkey.

Pipe. I am not a miserable person I enjoy my life here in the UK and my visits to NC but I don't tell lies and I don't like being accused of making things up. Cocklebay: I didn't say ex-Captain because he wasn't at the time he was still with CTA flying from Stansted. End of.
