Vaughan I am using Pumace to remove the lime deposits from my pool tiles. To be honest its hard work, but I treat a few tiles every day.I know I can use acid, but I prefere not to.

I fear you may scratch your pool tiles permanently allowing algae to get a foothold and also limescale to form again. You would be better advised to address the source of the limescale (i.e. the TA) and the limescale will dissolve by itself back into solution. Failing that use a green nylon pan scourer which won't scratch your tiles.

I have been away for a couple of months and returned to find that my pool has a greyish deposit on the bottom. This is particularly noticeable on the dark blue tiles, and is difficult to scrape off. I had assumed that it was Algae, but after reading this I am not so sure. What is the TA that you refer to and how do I deal with it? Thanks

TA refers to Total Alkalinity or a measure of the "hardness" of the water. TA should not be more or less than about 120ppm. It is usually a lot higher with well water and particularly in pools that leak and are regularly topped-up. High TA makes pH control difficult and causes water cloudiness and limescaling. The treatment to reduce TA should be asked of your pool maintenance company, but it can take a few weeks of daily treatment. If you want to do it yourself, Google it.
