I agree with you newlad, especially as it was on private premises, surely they would need a warrant to arrest them and if they were not actually caught in the act so to speak how can the courts prove intent? Chris

For heavens sake Newlad. Its unnatrual! It clearly says so in the bible. It seems to me it is one of the few laws that The TRNC are right about! Not a lot of that in North Yorkshire. wyn

Fact sex between consenting adults above 16 is legal in the UK whatever the gender i.e same sex as well as heterosexual sex But if for commercial purposes i.e prostitution it is illegal unless both over over 18 the same applies in France and Italy Also you have to be over 18 to be a page 3 model The former finance minister is a paedophile there is also a 14 year-old mentioned from a previous case http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_the_United_Kingdom As to gay rights the TRNC should rescind the statute but still protect the vulnerable from these sex tourists

There is no point either side trying to get the other to change its mind... some people seem able to accept homosexuality and some cannot. Those that cannot accept it, whether it be for religious reasons or indeed personal reasons should not be tagged as 'homophobic' or any other detrimental term which after all is only used to try and shut people up from speaking out against it. Just read the article on the 'Pink News' website, ridiculous name in my opinion.... and bit of a mixed one. Consenting adults in private... or 17 year old youth being led astray by older 'peado'...? Think they have been watching too many Soaps!!

wynyardman don't talk crap, So u are telling us, that 2000 years it was a common thing to happen between man sexually for this to be in thebible, or is it one of the things that man has changed over the years for the new bibles to write and preach about, you talk about this being wrong, Can you tell me how much the Vatican has paid out over the 10 years to families of children under the age of 16? l You talk about Yorkshire not having much of this, please act your age, Check the Yellow pages to see how many Gay bar and clubs there are in your area, oopppsss sorry you live on a farm with the sheep so not so much social life in the city maybe u can also explain how many british and yankees in the bushes at night during the 2nd world war please keep your pathetic view to yourself. You are only a visitor in this country, let the people who are living here and are TRNC citizens to decide, We don't tell you, what laws you should or should't change in the UK. Don't judge people

Erkin, With the greatest of respect, I judged no one. I quoted verbatim from the bible and it appears from the Koran (although I admit that I am not a regular reader.) As to acting my age, I would sooner not! No farm.....no Gay bars... just a quiet gated community. As I said just my views, thats all. Is there something you are trying to tell us? wyn

Article 172-173 and 174 from the old british times of the 1950's so yes we have a stupid law still on the books, despite agreeing to the E.U regulations of 2005 to amend the law, no party has yet gotten round to doing anything about it. This is the 4th case this year alone.Last being in July when 2 were arrested, beaten by the police then sent to Prison for 90 days each. It needs to be changed urgently.

this country is lagging behind others. I remember friends of mine who had miserable lives because the law was against them. Remember in U.K the changes began with the Wolfenden Report in the 1960's but it has taken decades more to get to where the law is today. so, do not expect here to rush to change things overnight. One interesting thing I was taught at Uni is that the law changes WITH human behaviour. think about it. It is such a complex subject of human rights and religious and political aspects/ethics that changes are slow, and sometimes are not even the right changes. so do not despair erkin. as to the Bible and the Koran, we could debate the meaning and application of religious books for ages on this forum and not come to any conclusion - as has happened for a couple of thousand years. But it should be about love and forgiveness, and sometimes there is not enough of that around.

Some other elements of God's Laws but how to follow them??!! 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I

oops Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/po

| (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? | Couldn't have put it better myself. Wish you (and the 'good human' who penned this) had been in my Bible Classes in the past. would have added some sensible spice. In fact, if we all applied ourself to the Bible one can find more and more of these. so what is truth? Hmmmm? Me, I just go back to the love and forgiveness! Easier than aruging things like creation./evolution. What is lcean and what is unclean and when. What I may eat and what I may not eat - all pre-fridge instruction days etc etc, or should we stick with that wonderful German saying 'sitz in leben' when deciding what is right for us today. fun, isn't it. And thanks Wild Olive. Great stuff. |

Guess it is the old story of thinking they will never get caught, and annoyed if they do. Of course we also know that the law is a ass! (quite often), but until it is changed, we all have to ride the beast.

Erkin, I don't think I would dare write an article unless asked to. I am very aware of where I am, who I am and that some subjects can be reasoned over - especially where there is confusion over impounded cars with no prior knowledge on why - but others are very sensitive and very delicated. However, if some people care to write here with any strong feelings I am happy to write an article withcomments on how people feel vis a viz the current laws on the subject in question. It has certainly been the cause of much discussion. Actually my Dissertation at Uni 20 years ago featured matters such as homosexuality, prostitution, sexual ethics, and the law etc, etc, so it is one of great interest, but I did see how much countries differ. In fact my dissertation was on the question of how much indiv iduals or organisatons do actually affect Parliament and its laws in the area of ethics in particularsexual moraltiy. Mouthful - sorry. Even in U., my findings were 'no'. come on people - share!

Marion the laws in the TRNC that effectively criminalise homosexuality are out dated and out of step with not just every EU country but also with Turkey's own laws as well as being incompatible with ECHR charters. They would not stand up to a challenge via the ECHR and should clearly be ammended and brought up to date. Either the TRNC makes these changes themselves or they will sooner or later be forced to do so via a challenge in the ECHR, just as was the case in Northern Ireland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudgeon_v._United_Kingdom Republic of Ireland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norris_v._Ireland Republic of Cyprus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modinos_v._Cyprus The existing laws are out dated and need ammendment nad if we do not do it ourselves we will be forced to do so by the ECHR. It is that simple to me.

Thanks Erolz. I do of course agree with you, and as I have said before, no two countries move at the same pace with amendments on laws. Erkin has suggested I write something, so I want a good eclectic opinion, as it is not my opinion that matters, but some good comments from caring people, especially TC's. We Brits who are strangers here do not have the right to be overtly critical, but can obviously feel the pain of the people of the north. So, any more comments from you folk. Thanks again Erolz.
