After paying an astronomical £336 one way from Leftkosa to Stansted, I arrived to find my suitcase strap off, padlock lost and a few items taken from my luggage. I contacted Pegasus and they said there was nothing they could do. So just beware and if open on collection report it straight away.

Someone told me once not to lock my case, as they look more inviting to thieves. - they think something valuable must be inside. An unlocked case is not worth bothering with.

Yes and don't put your full address on the baggage tags!!! Remember the scam at Stanstead and Gatwick, many passengers homes visited by strangers whilst they were away!!!!!!!

Excellent advice Cocklebay,

I see so many cases with the owners full contact details on the tags, I only ever put my flight number and destination on my tags.

Sue Msg 4 - good advice - flight numbers destination and dates of travel (both ways) alongside a mobile number and your family name the same details inside your case too.

Sorry meant to say in the last post

Sandra Msg 1 - Sorry to hear of it - Hope you were insured and that you filled in a report also let the airport police know and have a crime number.

The problem is it could have happened anywhere after check in so you cannot blame the airline as the only time they are in control of your bags is when they are in the hold (they could even have been moved from one part of the hold to another while you were on the ground in Turkey and broken into then).

Hi,

Just tp back up what flightholiday Tom has to say;

1. Flight details and full international code telephone number (mobile is best) UK = 0044++

2. Do not put anything of significant value into hold baggage (checked in) as the minmum wage contract staff employed by handlers or airlines have nothing to loose by getting caught.

I was on duty in the baggage dept. of Dublin Airport on Sunday night when two ladies arriving from Lanzarote had their bags ripped open and 1000 cigs each stolen. They could not lodge an 'official' complaint as they were technically 'smuggling' (allowance 200 cigs).

Industry news has it that 85% passing through Italian airports area interfered with.

Be careful,

DD

2000 cigarettes stolen from their bags.

The duty free allowance in all EU countries from outside the EU is 200 cigarettes per person over 18 years.

Baggage handlers know you cannot complain if you are smuggling more than your allowance.
