Im a new ex pat in lapta and im going to by a car next week



i will be able to do cheap taxi runs to and from the airports and anywhere in north cyprus i will be the cheapest in town i have a uk licence.

i have had other ideas but this is easyer im not a real taxi its just for ex pats and friends i make im not stupid i dont want to get impounded so i will come to all the bars and i no you will enjoy my ride i am buying car for 4000 tl and it should be very nice air con.

Well in that case.........I might have just the car for you.....Very low mileage (well for the past 5 years it's been in my back garden at Salamis, at least). It's a very nice Red/Brown colour (in places) and runs very well (if memory serves).



To you 4000TL, and no tyre kicking (or it's at at your own risk if you do).

thanks jeannie i could not get entertainers work permit and i could not afford to set up my shop i did realise on the duty so i have been pushed to do a few cab runs styler style but i will be happy to sing and rap when i drive so if i do this it will be by far the best service in town but your choice depending on your mood babe

mcstyler, i dont think you understand, how ever much you pay for your car or what ever licence you have, it does not matter, remember you are a foreigner here and as such it will be seen that you will be taking business away from the locals that have a taxi business with insurance for taking passengers on both sides, you will be working illegally...make no mistake you will loose your car and get a fine, and if you are really unlucky you will be deported..sorry for the wake up call but has to be said...ive been here 10 yrs and know how things work..

I said be careful not for any dramas from customers.

I mean the local taxi drivers who are NOT happt with even family collecting family and friends from Airports so what will they do about you, as verytime you go south a log is kept on you and as I said be careful. I know pothers who have come unstuck and to advertise here and as blaisy as you have will lead to only more trouble for you.



there was a geordie guy 4 years ago who had his car (had southern plates on) impounded at customs with customers in it, as he had been across south too often, customers were left high and dry and he had to leave his car in the ROC ..... where it conveniently disappeared



So without sounding patronising, do your homework and weigh up the riskd of running an illegal expat taxi service!

Styler, be very careful going South. It's not the taxi drivers you want to watch it the police/customs at the borders. They get very suspicious if they find you going south then coming back with four or five people and a car full of luggage. Likewise the other way round. When you get your visa stamped it's recorded on their computer and it's easy for them to see how many times you go in and out and how many P.O.B's. Before you know it you'll have a hefty fine and possibly your car impounded.



Also what about insurance? You'll need comprehensive but at the border it's only third party. What if you had a serious accident with passengers on board?



I nearly got done bringing neighbours over, accused me of being a taxi driver and nearly gave me a 800tl fine.

If you really want to do cabbing, do it legally. Get a work permit and try and get a 'T' plate cab. That is if the authorities will let a foreigner get a licence! If you are any good your name will soon get around by word of mouth and the ex pats will ask for you by name. Touting for business is illegal in UK don't know about here. Probably the same.
