I asked Nethouse Networks to make it possible to view UK channels (through their free VPN). Unfortunately it meant that I couldn't upload any text via browsers anymore. An email complaint to NN was answered on Sunday (!) and I'm confident the problem will be fixed today (Monday). Well done, NN!

Hans, I don't know whether you are aware of this - Nethouse told me that once they switch on their VPN for me it would be permanently on (I would be unable to switch it off and on as required). Therefore all my internet trafic would go via UK. I wasn't sure if this would slow things down to a noticeable extent, so I chose to remain with my "paid for" VPN. Do you think I was worrying unecessarily?

@ msg 2, Ozbey: Using the NN VPN means a slower connection, says NN. Another reason for me to ask them to restore my former configuration.

Thanks Hans, That is why I like a VPN that I swich on only when required (for UK TV or banking etc). I keep it switched off for all other internet use.

Hans, I don't know for mac but for windows I have been very satisfied for the past 2 years with "My Expat Network". £5 per month. Go to http://www.my-expat-network.co.uk to sign up. Easy to download and install. If you want a trial just sign up, install, and pay the first month (you can cancel at any time before the next payment is due). That is what I did and I'm still with them 2 years later. I keep the program shortcut on my desktop, open it when required and close it immediately I have finished with it. One possible downside - if you have more than one computer sharing the same internet connection you can only install it on one computer.

Thank you, Ozbey! I'll give it a try - if there is a Mac version of the software available.

Hi Oxbey I like the sound of this but unfortunately don't know a lot about this type of thing. I could sign up for this which sounds good, but what internet connection would I need? Can I use by dongle I buy 2G for 40 turkish lira with turkcell would this be enough to download english tv programmes save them and watch them at a later date? Or do I need to have something else? What do you use for your internet connection? Sorry to be a pain............... Thanks Linda..........................

LoopyLou, To download TV programs your internet speed doesn't matter (slower speeds will just take longer than faster speeds). What does matter is the amount of data you are allowed to download - One to two hours of TV will use 1 Gig. You are buying 2 Gigs so you could only download, say, 3 hours of TV. To watch UK TV live you will need a fast internet connection. I don't know what speeds the dongles offer, but I doubt they would be fast enough. I use Nethouse 2Mbps and it mostly performs well enough for live TV.
