Go to the Girne police station with all your paperwork, there don’t appear to be extreme queues at the moment! You will be given a piece of paper to take to the state hospital to pay for your blood and TB tests. Here you may encounter a queue as they also do the work permits. Residency cost 135TL, work permit 165TL. There is a list outside the door you need to add your name and they will call you when they reach your name on the list. You will be given another piece of paper with the name of the clinic they are using for tests on the top – they are apparently using a rota basis for clinics! The clinic will take your blood and give you the TB test, you will need to return three days later to have the TB test checked. I was told to return to the State hospital a week later to collect my results. Has anyone got any further than this? There seems to be some confusion about what happens next.

Wino53, remember there is a Bayram next week and a one day holiday the following week - may be better to leave it 3 weeks before going to Lefkosa. Mrs G

Despite supposed general strike today, residency renewal at Lefkosa was quick (relatively!).

Just one comment about the price of the work permits - price varies depending on whether you want 1 or 2 yrs, and whether you are an employer or employee (ie, the owner of the company).

Is this just for the first time residency or do we have to do this every time we renew? We renew again in February 2013 and would not really want to do all that again. Does anyone know?

I can see a hell of a lot more people leaving because of this residency mess, I'm totally sick of jumping through unnecessary hoops for these people.

It is such a shame, making things complicated and more expensive will encourage more people to leave or just not do their residency, ending up in the government actually getting less money, seems it's that same old thing for here, if you're getting less people attending your bar/restaurant etc then put the prices up!!! Same goes for residency it seems!

Just returned from trying to pick up our results. Disorganised mess when we got there. around 30people waiting. Within ten minutes there was a very very loud argument between a customer and one of the office staff. The office staff person was so irate that he closed both the windows. after 5 mins , 1 window opened and all the passports that were given in for processing were dumped on a shelf. windows closed again and that was it ! . Some people then left in disgust. we waited for calm and eventually they re-opened ... handed in our passports again and got the necessary paperwork. Surely it would make sense to collect the results from the clinic that you were sent to?. Why all this unnecessary extra work and stress involved. The test results were not even ready in an envelope. They had to sift through all the results to find ours then it went into an envelope. Ridiculous situation for us all.

I think they are pretty much shooting themselves in the foot, people will stop doing residency and I don't blame them! I can't even cross the border at the moment because my visa ran out yesterday and even though they have all my paperwork, they won't let me go to the south! It just becomes more and more ridiculous!

What a right royal mess...... Went yesterday to the police station, got a ticket to go to Girne Hospital. When we eventually found the right place to pay, we had to put names on a list, after 1/2 hour security got list, called names, took passports (horror!!!) and about 1 hour later called to window for details, 20 minutes later called to window to pay. Given two forms, told go upstairs to have blood test and x-ray (more horror). x-ray - why I said - no answer. Went upstairs, queued for blood test, gave ticket for x-ray to be told, not today, we had done our 25 and we are now finished (this is at 10.30 a.m., good job if you can get it!!!!). I said, no way jose.... today I have the test, not tomorrow, not bloody likely am I coming back tomorrow for an unnecessary x-ray, which would not be required if I went to a private clinic..... Fortunately a Turkish Cypriot male, who spoke good english, took me to see the director of the hospital who make some phone calls and lo an behold

continued/.... lo and behold they did our x-rays....... Told to come back a week on wednesday to collect results. I have not been so stressed and bothered since the first time I did my residency in 2004. It is a complete and utter shambles. They don't know what they are doing and they don't have the time to do it and all they want is the extra cash. It cost me 80tl last year privately and 135TL this year in what can only be described as a pretty second rate establishment. Also x-rays are very invasive, it is against everything I think is right for them to tell me to have an x-ray, especially as I had only had an x-ray about 2 months ago for a bad chest infection. But what on earth can you do against a system like this which is only and I repeat only geared up to getting your money. My husband thought that I was going to hit someone as some stage and asked me to calm down - Ha, calm down I would have rather hit someone!!!!!!!!!!!

Msg 6 price varies depending on whether you want 1 or 2 yrs, and whether you are an employer or employee (i.e., the owner of the company). I must be misunderstanding this comment as i am still in stitches how can a blood test cost more if you are applying for a two-year permit. Do they get their crystal ball out to check my blood will be ok in 12 months. I am sure people would prefer the temporary residency price to go up and maybe accept tests every five years if they are really worried about the health of people.

Results are available from room 307, I was there yesterday at 1pm, once they had opened the office - about 1.15pm, it took a couple of minutes for me to be seen, my results located and put into an envelope. There were about 10 other people waiting. Where did susiesusie go for results? There are no windows at room 307!
