The government has raised electricity tariff charges. With the decision made by up to 25 per cent reported to hike rates. The Council of Ministers cited "currency gain" as the reason for a raise. From 0-200 kW of power consumption tariff is still 0:30 cents and 0.35 cents were removed. 250 to 500 kW of power consumption with 00:35 to 12:42 Consumption from 500 kWh to 700 kWh and 0.40 cents was diagnosed 00:48. Over 750 kW when cents 0.65 cents increased to 0:50.

Still trying to figure this one out: "250 to 500 kW of power consumption with 00:35 to 12:42" Will this mean that anything used over 250Kw will now cost 12.42 TL per unit instead of 0.35 TL per unit? Bit bigger than a 25% rise that one! And this one makes no sense at all: "Consumption from 500 kWh to 700 kWh and 0.40 cents was diagnosed 00:48". Probably price rise from .40 TL per unit to .48 TL per unit??? Never use up to 500Kw any way so not worried about that. As this was all a "Google" translation then I will have a guess that new rates are: 0-200Kw now 0.30 TL per unit and 200 to 500Kw now 0.42 TL per unit. What happens between 200 and 250 Kw is anybody's guess!! Anyone got a better idea?

Presumably it will continue that government and local authorities plus any business that they have a financial interest in will fail to pay their bills and the peasants pick up the tab !

| We just would like to inform you that we, kibsolar are 1. a TRNC registered company, with an website, not only an email adress as other advertising eg in Cyprus Today. 2. we are spezialised in solar PV systems since 10 years and no "follow ups" 3. seen over a time period of ten years (solar system work longer!!) we can produce a kWh for approx 0,38 to 0,42 TL, which represents at the moment 0,15 to 16 Euro cents. | Kibsolar, Many thanks for the helpful translation. I figure it means that the cost per Kw in the range 0 to 200Kw has risen from 0.30 kurusa to 0.35 kurusa and that the cost per Kw in the range 250Kw to 500Kw has also risen from 0.35 kurusa to 0.42 kurusa. Is that close enough?? I have spent the last 7 years trying to learn "some" Turkish but find it almost impossible as most Turkish only want to learn English and prefer to use that language. I am starting to win but find that Cypriot Turkish is different to Turkish Turkish and a lot of words do not exist in Turkish dictionary's. Now in fun as we all need to have a smile every now and then!!! However, if I am to learn "some" Turkish can I request by return that "some" mathematics is learnt by Kibtek as well - then they will be able to explain to me the missing figures between 200Kw and 250Kw and what the invisible price of those units will be? |

Dire news indeed for the pensioners from U.K whose pensions are stretched to the hilt. Of course they /we will manage better than in U.K, but houses here are not built for keeping cold out, but for keeping cool in the hot sun. Can't say I understand what the rise is, but whatever it is, we will have to pay. So, maybe I will stay in bed longer getting v alue for my electric blanket, and then go off to a coffee bar that has heating to while away the day with my free internet access as well. any other ideas on how to cope with the extra 25% that looks as if it is more than 25%. time will tell when we get the first bill.

This rise is connected to the price of the fuel used at the power station, it seems we are slowly coming into line with the main land. Our fuel IE, gas, petrol, diesel, electric is slowly reaching the same price as the mainland. Who will subsidize the TRNC's fuel prices as we get all the fuel, gas ect from Turkey??? and they send the money to keep it at a low price.

I wouldnt start being a smart a--e with comments like that. You are liable to put off any potential customers you may have, which would only be ex pats. They will be the only ones affected by the price hike wouldnt they.

I think they must have sneaked in another rise because our tariff has gone up : Band 1 from 0.30 to 0.38 - 26.7% Band 2 from 0.35 to 0.44 - 25.7% Band 3 from 0.38 to 0.52 - 36.8% Anyone know what Band 4 has gone up to? It was 0.50. The standing charge has gone up 62% on previous month!

I Have had my bill with the new charges and it has more than doubled from the same time last year. It was normally between 110 - 125ytl each month winter and summer. We don't use electric for heating as we have a woodburner and we haven't bought anything new that uses lots of electricity but this months bill was 255ytl. It is worrying as the real winter weather hasn't arrived yet, when you are in doors more with the lights and tv on. I don't believe that the local Turkish Cypriots can pay this increase together with the rise in council taxes. That has doubled in Esentepe this year. The butlers wife

Wasn't the Turkish Ambassador saying that the cost of electricity here is three times the world average back in the summer. I wonder what it is now?

| I dont know what the Turkish ambassodor said.. or where he lives..1,6 billion people do not have a gridconnection. Does he cont that as "0"? The prices in Turkey are, incl VAT, approx 25-35 kurus per unit (say 12-15 eurocent), builders electricity approx 80 kurus. Some Prices in europe incl VAT: Finland, France, GB approx 14 eurocent (only possible because of nuclear power), Belgium 20, Germany 23, Denmark 32! in the US approx 11-23 eurocent. TRNC prices somewhat between 15 and 20 eurocent So you know what to come. The next pricerise in the TRNC is on the way.. expected are another 25%, so we will come to Band 1, 1st 250 kWh - 19 eurocent (per day 8kWh for fridge, TV, lights, small items) Band 2, 2nd 250kWh - 22 eurocent (for eg 2nd fridge/freezer, hob/oven, ) Band 3, 3rd 250Kwh - 26 eurocent (for 1st a/c or pool pump) Band 4, 4th 250kWh, approx 30 cent, (for a/c and/or pool pumps) Kibsolar can produce solar energy per unit for 15-19 Cent, guarantied for 15 years!
