Has anyone done this themselves without using an agent? Do you have to have residency before moving? Any info will be gratefully received. Thanks.

a few yrs ago you needed to have residency before you could import anything ie contents but not sure now and it was also advisable to have an agent to sort out the customs and shipping

A TC friend of ours did it about a year ago. He purchased his house first then moved. Which then gives you some sort of NI number. He did bring his car back to the TRNC to sell because to register it in Turkey was far too expensive.

delikomsu....I copied this from Shelter Offshore..hope it helps To get a residence visa if you don’t own a property in Turkey nor have a job in Turkey you can get what’s called a Tourist Residence Permit which is valid for between 6 and 12 months and which currently costs about GBP 150. Those with a home in Turkey, who wish to import personal effects, furniture etc., or who wish to move to live in Turkey full time will have to get a full residence visa. At the moment it is not worth applying for one prior to moving to Turkey as this actually doubles the expense and the workload. So, move to Turkey on a 3 month tourism visa and immediately get the ball rolling for the residence visa by attending the foreign nationals section of the local police headquarters.
